Best American pre-1970 car?

There's an American series(can't remember the name, sorry) in which only American cars built before 1970 are allowed. I can't afford the AC so I went with the '69 Stingray. After much tuning I still can't beat the AC. The Stingray has plenty of power, it just handles like crap(sounds rediculous too, like an electric blender). Luckily I saved my game before I tuned the Stingray. I have about 400,000cr. right now, any suggestions?

I had very good results running the Dodge Charger. This was my first car and I've been using it in every race it is allowed. Does well against Vipers and such but falls short against the RACE cars. If you've got that many credits and have upgraded the Vet I don't think you should be having problems. One thing I like about GT4 is the ability to have three different setups. If I was you I would return the VET to the 'default' settings. You should have the fully customizable transmission and set it up as super close, close, and wide. Where super close will have a lot of acceleration for tracks with many turns and not very long straights and wide being the opposite good for long straights. Aside from that the rest of the tuning is dependant on your driving style. Just avoid making too many adjustments at once. NEVER try and use the same setup for all tracks! I have done a lot of tuning so if you have specific questions let me know.

I used the Chevelle SS 454 for the American Cup Race thing that needs pre 70's or 80's or whatever. With racing suspension it works good.

The '62 Buick Special. Nothing pre-1970 can touch that car...

Yuo can run it stock because it is based upon a heavily-modified car that they showed at SEMA. Even the suspension has been reworked, so it handles better than you would believe possible, too...

I used the C2 Z06 Race Car.. murders them.
While on the subject of american championships, does anyone know what car to use to beat the American GT1 class championship(Its the first one in the American Events)?

Copy that.

Why is the buick special even a contender?

What engine are they using in it?

The only 2 I have ever driven (for real) had 215 aluminum V8's (the motor they sold to range rover), which isnt exactly a powerhouse engine. I think they also had a V6 available that year. I cant imagine these cars being competitive.

You might want to try the 69' Z28, as they were factory trans-am race cars, with availble 4 wheel disc breaks and racing suspension from the factory. The Chevy 302 engines were high reving, high compression, solid lifter beasts. I have no idea how they preform in the game yet, but from the cars I saw listed, that should be the best "race" car. I dont have the game yet (monday), but you can bet a 69' Z28 will be in my garage.

Does Corvette Race Car '64 has same kind of sound that Shelby Cobra?????? I heard a clip in granturismo.de but I don't know if it's real or from game... If it's from game that's excellent! (The thread in GT.de is "Der car sound")

I eventually won the '63 C2 Z06 and won the race(the race was in the Professional Hall) with it. That car is a blast to drive. It handles a lot better than the '69 Stingray. I tried everything to get that '69 to behave, wasn't going to happen. Thanks for the input all.

The real-life car that it is modelled on has a big-block in it, supercharged. It is not a stock Buick, it is a street rod that was built for the SEMA show, hence the reason it looks like it does. It is a consistent show winner, and it got into GT4 by winning the "best in show" award that year at SEMA.

i agree largely. I used the 69 SS and nothing touched me. Lower it stiffen the springs get some better brakes and tune up the engine. Think I put a supercharger on it instead of NA tune, cheaper and doesnt net a whole lot less HP. Kinda weak you cant hear blowers on all the cars. Maro sounds ricey too.. :(

i kept restarting the race to get rid of the AC.... that thing is IMPOSSIBLE to beat!!! (or i just suck...)
and bad thing is, both american classic AND european classic has it.... i just kept restarting both races to get rid of that car....

If you want your Camaro to sound good, get the z28 instead of the ss. Keep the stock exhaust. Most of the muscle cars sound pretty damn good- the stock exhaust usually sounds the best.

'62 buick special. its not the production model. ~550hp, ~1350kilo's - before mod's (and it can take almost all of them), which ends up making it even more disgustingly powerful.

I bought the stingray for these races for the money to power ratio. ended up having to put full downforce, racing mediums, and a supercharger on it to hang with the buick. after that it felt ok. I gotta say the 13 mile course is so awesome! i forget the name but its now my personal favorite, now i just need to learn it heh. btw any win the camaro race car yet? that thing kicks ass!

Ive got the Camaro Race Car and it sure does handle good.
BTW how does the Super Bird handle?
Ive got one of them but I havent driven it yet.

That would be the Nurburgring, and yes, it's awesome. The first time I did it, it was so intense... not knowing the track and all.

The 1969 Z28 is a dud in GT4, it was a great car in real life but they made it garbage in the game.

That makes me sad. You would figure the ricers would like a super handling, high reving, loud (chambered exhaust system), high tech machine, that was the original Z28's. It was so different and made for the tracks that actually had turns, unlike most of what came out around then.

I'm having a lot of fun with the Chevy 454 SS. And it didn't cost me one penny. :) I'm currently running it in the 1,000 Mile Race in the European Hall. 25 laps on the Nurb was quite a thrill.

I used the saleen S7
fully modded 950 hp and 289 top speed

The Chevy 454 SS was boatloads (get it?) of fun in the Muscle Car Cup. I prefer to leave the car stock rather than upgrade the suspension. In the replays, you can watch it wobble all over the road like something out of a 70s car chase scene. :D
