Just today I went into BB to get my copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 and here were stacks of 80GB MGS4 Bundled PS3's. Not thinking straight, I bought the game and went home and quickly realized it was time to exchange my original 60GB PS3 that I bought in November of 2006 for a new one.

I grabbed the PS3 and a Axis controller and headed to BB with my exchange receipt that I kept all that time. At the end of the exchange, I gave them my old PS3 and my junk PS3 controller and came with a new 80gb, MGS4 that was bundled with the PS3, a DS3 controller, and a $100 credit because of the price difference. I took the hundred and bought another 2-year exchange warranty for $80 and ended up with a $20 credit.

I'll take back my MGS4 game I bought earlier and get my money back. All in all it's been a productive night at Best Buy.

And the best part, GTA4 installed, loaded, and is so far, playing just fine!!!!

The only loss is my 160GB hard drive that was in my original PS3 had to be formatted. I thought I could just pop it in and go but that was not the case. Not a huge deal, I'll just have to re-download some games and re-finish other games. The new Sony Store has a "View Downloads" button now to show all my history of downloads. Tonight I'll setup a mass download of all my download games.

Wow! Congrats, now you finally should be able to enjoy GTA 4 👍

*runs off to replace PS3*

Oh wait, they only have 40gigs here now :(

hmmm, I personally wouldnt have gotten rid of an original 60GB just because of the stuff thats in it (the EEGS chips) and other extra stuff that sony are now cutting back on to save costs with the new models.

But to each his own...👍

You can just exchange the PS3? I don't really understand. Is that a benefit of their warranty or something? But your old PS3 wasn't broken?

They don't ask any questions with a product replacement plan, at least at my Best Buy.

I could run to buy best and put my PS3 under warranty and I have a good 2-3 months left before my 1 year replacement warranty goes void.

I would like to play PS3 games without graphical anomalies, or lockups rather than to be worried about backwards compatibility. I had a hand full of games where polygon points would stretch across the entire screen. Very annoying. It's all good now though. :)

You'd rather play PS3 games on your PS3 instead of PS2 games? What kind of crazy talk is that, Pako?!?

:p

Congrats on the upgrade!

When I contacted Sony via their website, I gave my reason (BD drive failed on 60GB) and the serial# and they sent me a new one (40GB model) and that was that. So now I have 2 PS3's though one of them won't read Blu Rays.

It's not supposed to work like that, is it?...

Lol...no. And they should replace a 60GB with another 60GB so you should be able to complain and get them to swap that 40GB for a 60GB.

60GB model is not around anymore(well in the US...). Ask for a 80GB.

I know, but Sony will still have some stock for when they have to replace them.

They are no longer available in the UK either, but if you call Sony and tell them your 60GB is faulty they will send you a refurbished 60GB console.

However I suppose its easier for them to do that in the UK because the hardware in the 80GB US is the same as the hardware in the 60GB UK (apart from the HDD and region coding of course!), they both use emulation to play PS2 games where as the US/JPN 60GB consoles used actual PS2 hardware (Emotion Engine & Graphics Synthesiser).

You should be able to find BluRay drives (definitely laser modules) as replacement units. Have a scout around on the intershizznit.

Hmm where is the serial located?
