What do you guys think is the best console ever made? I think that it is the PSOne and the PSP, for good reason.

PSOne: My PSOne has I think reasonable graphics, and great games, especially such as GT1 and 2, and NFS HS and HP III, and others alike.
People always complain of their PS2s and XB360s freezing, but my PSOne has never frozen. I have had it for over 5 years since the year it came out, and left it on for months at a time without it freezing once, or any noticable effect on it. I have dropped it without it breaking, and I think this is simply an amazing machine. The N64 is also great, and to be honest I think its games are more fun, but my vote still goes to PSOne. I have had XB360s freeze on me more than 8 times, 2 of which where I was the first one to play it for less than an hour and it froze, and PS2s need rest after a mere 2 hours. PSOne is awsome-- and that it is more valuable than any other 1st gen console now helps too.

PSP: It is a serious gamers machine. With all the capabilities and much more of the PS2, it is honestly amazing. It has a nice selection of games, music player, wireless internet, photos, and much more, and I love the sleep feature for the games. The only complaint I have is that it is not multiplayer on one machine, but with only one little machine, how can it be?

The original Playstation. we had one for 6 years before it gave up, after being used at least 350 days a year. It was an amazing console and a revolution in gaming with it's new style controller which was comfortable to use and the concept of it was adopted by and is still used today by other console manufacturers. The game titles are legendary, with it being the home of grand theft auto, metal gear solid, gran turismo, spyro, wipeout, tekken and many others.

Hmm. Strange how handhelds made the list yet the Genesis/MegaDrive and Neo Geo didn't...

Anyway, my solo vote is for the SNES/SuperFamicom:
- Compared to most of the rest of these consoles, it was pretty hard to find a bad game, and the game library was rather huge, too.
- Its controller design is still in use to this very day (albeit with two extra shoulder buttons, two analog joysticks, and protrusions for the palms to make things slightly more ergonomic).
- Its games are still popular (primarily through emulation) -- I could probably come up with a list twice as long as this entire post, off the top of my head, of great SNES games that are still fun to play today.
- Its sound chip was amazing for its time, and the Mode 7 scaling effect, as well as the Super FX custom cartridge chip, led to the introduction of some of the very first 3-dimensional home-console games.
- The top-loading cartridge system was and is far more reliable than any modern disc-based console can be.
- Bottom line, it was the best-selling console of the 16-bit era, heralded by many to be the golden age of video games.

If I could have, I would have also voted for the Genesis/MegaDrive (host to several SEGA classics, and featuring some of the best FM-Wavesynth-based music I've ever heard), and the Neo Geo (proof that sometimes, truckloads of memory can make up for "weak" processors, helping produce very beautiful, detailed games).

SNES/Super Famicom(I used to own both!). Because I liked them the bestest(it's a real word). 👍

No Atari 1600?! That If I remember right would have been the first system to have multiple games to buy. The PONG system we had before that was a self contained unit. Might be worth a mention.

edit: How that takes me back to the days as a kid <Drifting off in a cloudlike day dream> standing in the isle at target...Wanting the classics like RiverRaid, Pitfall, Dragster, misslecomand. Does anyone remember that it came with combat? The first wargame that started it all.

PS2. The first real revolution in console gaming in a long time.

And, it needs rest after 2 hours? GT4's endurance races much?

Not to mention I've left mine on for 2 and a half weeks straight without a problem.

I added Genesis and Neo geo.

👍

Really? 'Cause I just thought it was just a Playstation 1 with a new color and a hardware boost that put it somewhere between the GameCube and Dreamcast in processing power...and the Playstation 1, in turn, wasn't a whole lot more than what it was originally designed to be -- an SNES with a CD drive.

Impressive, and one of the better consoles ever made? Yes. Host to many, many good games? Yes. Revolutionary? Eh...I don't think so, personally.

im voting for playstation because i couldnt kill the thing despite my best efforts and some of my best gaming memories are on there, i still play a few of the tittles today... the snes and ps2 would be a close 2nd and my beautiful psp would be 3rd

You know devices like the GameBoy is an handheld, which is why I am saying this:

If you put a handheld into this poll, why not add the C64 or other really retro systems.

Sorry. I'd never heard of them. Well, my friends all say after 2 hours 'oh, lets stop playing for a few minutes, it's getting warm' when my PSOne has never gotten warm or overheated, ever. I always questioned this, but upon feeling them they were really hot, hotter than my PSOne has ever gotten.

Then again most of them were slims, which were known for cooling problems.

YES!!!!!! River raid was the most coolest game! Even my parents loved that game, when we got an Atari.

Anyway, on topic, I voted for PS2, partially because I'm poor and didn't really get the opportunity to buy all of the other consoles (but I have played an Xbox before, Halo is an awsome game, wish it was on PS2), and partially because of the power of the thing, and the killer titled games it supports.

Genesis/Mega Drive, by far.
Establishment of many great franchises, ranging from Ecco to Sonic, many of which were the reason Sega managed to overcome Nintendo's deathgrip they had on the market. It also had some killer exclusives that not even Nintendo could touch at their prime (Rocket Knight Adventures, for example) So sad to see Sega throw it all away in 1995, but it was a damn good 6 years, at least. And they never made a hand held Playstation 2, did they?
Honorable Mention? Dreamcast. Enough said.
Not really a definitive list of consoles available in the poll, though. No Master System? No Intellivision? No Atari 2600? Multiple PS3's and XBox 360's? What's with the handhelds on the list? Ahh, oh well.

The PSP, sorta, but it's no Nomad.

Agreed.

I voted PS2.

I have a the very original model PS2, bought it the day it came out... it's never frozen, never had a part replaced, never had to be repaired.

I just clean the laser once every month, keep the air intakes clean, and every now and agan take it appart and clean the dust out inside.

It's roughly 7 years old now, I play it every day... sometimes all day (when I have nothing better to do.

I've had it run through seven 24hr races on GT4, running each race from 72hrs anywhere up to 150hrs because of pausing for breaks, and sleep.

And it still goes smooth.

If you treat her right, she'll go the distance.

I voted for the playstation as my dad got one of these when they came out and this was the main console that got me into gaming!:D

Plus ive still got it now and ive got nearly 150 games for it! lol
