Hey, do you guys know of any pretty good free racing sims for mac? I'm running a G3 so my computer is kinda slow, I'd like to race against other people. got any suggestions?

By the way: I downloaded Racer, and I was very unimpressed.

Oh boy this is a good one,

its almost impossible to have a "good free racing sim" but then you go and throw in "mac" and now im watching this thread with interest.. I'm asking myself is that even possible?

Thats like saying
"is there any fast, light and environmentally friendly sports cars, that handle made by GM?"

You can run XP on the newer intel macs but a G3 Power PC? I highly doubt it :ouch:

But really, the only sim worth mentioning is the mac version of NR2003 and thats not legally free

I looked at NR2003. Whenever I saw It was NASCAR I was pumped. when I saw the price, I decided I'm not going to buy a game for 125.00 $. anyone got anything else? My7 dad has a Macbook intel now, so anything mac would be good.

Aside from NASCAR Racing Season 2003, no. You might be able to find WipEout: 2097 for cheap somewhere if you're not limiting yourself to cars. Ambrosia Software makes Redline, but I expect it to run poorly on a G3 (800+ MHz iBook? I hope it's not a B&W G3 tower).

Try digging through Inside Mac Games. I gave up and built a PC for my gaming fix.

Apart from Nascar 2003, which may be the only serious racing sim for the Mac (but runs great on today's hardware though), and the far-less advanced F1 CS 2000, there's also Toca Racing Driver 3 (Race Driver 3 / DTM 3), which is fairly ok if not quite up there with the newest.

Thru Cider, you can also run pc-based racers like Grand Prix Legends and Need for Speed Underground/Most Wanted/Carbon directly on OS X... None of them are free, though, and I don't know of a real, complete Mac sim which doesn't cost some $.

Umm…

Maybe you didn't download the right content for RACER …

Log onto tracciontrasera.es and get the SWISS STROLL and LAGUNA SECA tracks and the HONDA NSX. Do a few laps. Download the Aston Martin DB9. Do a few laps. Log onto RSC http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=317951 and download the BMW 325i E30. If you still don't like RACER, then I don't know what you're looking for in a driving simulation.

Edit: Just saw that your Dad has a macbook. O.k.: Make him buy CrossOver for 39 bucks and download and install M3 Challenge (excellent simu, free). Runs like a breeze on CrossOver my macbook. And it is even possible to trick this free simu into using the Nürburgring Nordschleife (outta GTL or something) (I won't give instructions on how to do that here, if interested, simply search the net)

Do you read your own thread?

Oh yeah, and ever since CrossOver 8.0 came out, M3 Challenge looks even better. The fantasy forest track in Scotland (from the above site) is fantastic and great fun.
