Best game sound track?

Ello :)

Alot of people totally over look sound tracks in games, and well, how ass kicking they can be, so just wondering, what in your opinion are the best sound tracks in games?

Here are a few of mine...

halo games, stunning music, better then 99.9% of films sound tracks.
nights in to dreams on the sega saturn.
guardian hereos, also on the saturn. A fantastic mix of rock, jazz and blues.
eve online, hypnotic and beautiful.
FF7 and 8.

oh and please, don't bother mentioning games like GTA, original music only ;)
 
I have always loved music from Streetfighter 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Megaman X and games made by Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario, Zelda, Lylat wars/Starwing).

I recemend people get hold of the halo 1 sound track of cd, it's BRILLIANT. Can't comment on halo 2 sound track cd, but I imagine it's great from what I've heard in the game.

My fav game choon has to be the final boss fight against the enlarged baby Bowser in Yoshi's island. What a great choon indeed!!!! 👍 👍 👍

Because Vice city doesn't have an original soundtrack.

I'm going to say Gran Turismo 1 & 2, but only the Japanese ones which have some nice Jazz/Rock/Funk.

Let me just look at some of the game soundtracks I listen to.

Xenogears (Rivals FFVII for me soundtrack wise and exceeds it in some places, although the battle and boss themes are rather bland. But it makes up for it in having excellent themes for characters and well fitting ones for most locations)

Einhander (Very overlooked 3d/sidescroller for the PS1, but had an awesome eletronica score)

Katamari Damacy (Yes that game, it's hard to describe it but the soundtrack suits the game so well)

Other mentions go to

-Turrican 2
-Speedball1/2
-PaRappa The Rapper
-Most of the sonic series even the first Sonic adventure had some good music.

I could go on mentioning some other games from Amiga and C64, but then probably nobody would have heard of them.

The best music in a video game is the type that you don't notice initially but it adds atmosphere to the game. I think maybe EA should be reminded of this, with their current EA Trax (sic) in most of their new games.

I played alot of those games back in the day. I remember a few, like M.U.L.E. and Paradroid for C64. Loved those two. My best friend had an Amiga and we played tons of games on it back then but I can barely remeber most of them.

I always really liked the music on Doom 64. The music on some of the levels was creepy as hell...babies crying , goats bleating, things moaning, and all kinds of other weird stuff mixed in all the time in a random jumble.

How could I forget KD?! I love the soundtrack to that game.

Final Fantasy VII

These are by far the best i've heard. All FF games have excellent soundtracks, but FFVII sticks out in my mind.
 
It's gotta be Starcraft or Half Life. Half Life had the best tension-setting jmusic ever. As for non-original its NFSU hands-down. NFSU2 soundtrack didn't even compete. Plus, most of the soundtracks for NFSU didnt become mainstream until long after NFSU was released, so you could sort of say NFSU made about 10 popular artists or so. As for Half-Life, the people @ Valve know what they're doing.

[Edit] I didn't even notice that Halo had a soundtrack. lol ]
