What we're the best storylines you have ever played in a game and why.
For me it was GTA San Andreas because of epic ways that CJ had to overcome bad things that happens to him. Then I put Persona 4 because the amount of epicness is too damn high. Whoever played it, who is watching the anime or actually readed the manga knows what I'm talking about it. And GTA IV too, because Niko choices actually change the end of the game, and the storyline is nice too.

Votes:

GTA San Andreas - 1
GTA IV - 3
SMT: Persona 4 - 1
GTA Episodes From Liberty City - 1
MGS 4 - 3
Infamous 2 - 1
MW3 - 1
NFS The Run - 1
Metal Gear Solid 2 - 1
Final Fantasy VII - 1
HALO - Reach - 1
Uncharted 2 - 3
Infamous - 1

Really those are the only 2 games since I started gaming on the commodore 64 that were good enough to get me to pay attention to them. No other game even comes to mind that had a good enough story to set through the cut scenes.

Some Metal Gear Solid title... and Uncharted 2; may not have the most realistic storyline, but it is exciting enough to make you want more.

Okay... so don't make a poll.
Seriously! Just make a friggin poll!
Its easier than counting all the votes yourself!

Who decides what games go on the poll then?

You make a poll with every game someone has mentioned. Then you put a final choice in the poll thats called "Other (State in post)"

You'll probably find that the "other" category will be far too big of a list, making the poll itself almost redundant.

I tend to feel that a lot of games have fairly mediocre stories, especially when compared with what we expect from films and novels. I don't feel that games like GTA are compelling enough as far as a story goes. I thought Mafia 2 was probably one of the better sandbox games when it came to story. It was pretty much a typical gangster movie, shame the gameplay was a tad lacking.

Probably the most impressive story I have encountered to date however is Batman Arkham City. There have been some great (and a lot of terrible) Batman stories, and Arkham City stands up on story alone as one of the top 5 Batman stories ever told.

Yes but you can edit a poll and add more choices can't you?

Who understands MGS storyline?? Cmon, seriously???

Mine vote goes to Uncharted 👍

I'm not using the poll because of the others category being so huge, it's not even fair. And I can count the votes all by myself... But thinking now, I don't think that the votes are even useful, since we should just share why we think which game has the most epic storyline for you.

My top few:
MGS 1
MGS 3
Deus Ex, as in the original
GTA IV was probably my favourite of all the GTA's as it was actually feasible
Metro 2033... I know there's one more that is actually really good...
Nope, can't remember.

If I had to choose one out of that list, it would be Deus Ex. I think it's because I read The Man Who Was Thursday which was referenced throughout the game in a number of Datacubes so I felt more involved when I last played through it, but it mixed a conspiracy that would make Hideo Kojima proud, but it never felt completely over the top; i.e. no twin brothers' souls living inside amputated arms, no towering mechs (aside from the terrifying security bots) and no minigun-wielding Inuits whose tattoos could turn into birds which could paralyse you. Not that I don't love all that, because I do, but I liked Deus Ex that little bit more because I felt like it was just, just on the plausible side of sci-fi, most of the time. The Men in Black, the alien, greasels (and etc.) and the dragon's tooth sword were pushing it, but I was pretty cool with the rest.

You probably do have to sort of half believe most real-life conspiracies to be alright with the Echelon AI and the whole virus thing... Hopefully this isn't spoiling it for anyone, but then if you've lasted 10 years without playing Deus Ex you're probably not going to care.

A game from yesteryear Snatcher. Came from the creator of metal gear solid and even has metal gear in it, although you wouldn't recognise him. Top notch pacing with nice twists and turns and an epic ending that lasts quite a while. Was probably one of the first games to actually focus on story telling.

Uncharted 3. (Uncharted 2 is the better game but 3 had a much better story in my opinion.)
Red Dead Redemption.

played that bad boy on Sega CD years back.

great game, great story - needs to be remade with a darker feel, something more akin to Blade Runner. I know that is what they were going for originally, but the fluorescent anime slightly took away from it.

Since Hollywood and major media outlets have apparently "run out" of original ideas, I'm surprised that it hasn't been remade.
