I'm not a big fan of the paint chip system since the color choices are highly limited, a lot of the colors I like are the hardest to find in the UCD, and you can only use a paint chip once. I heard GT6 is going to have the exact same system as GT5, so I'm not really happy about that.

With that being said, these are my favorite paint chips in GT5:

What paint chips do you prefer the most? Do you prefer solid, metallic, chrome, matte, or color shift? Do you prefer "realistic" car colors that you'll commonly see on the streets today, classic car colors, or flashy colors that you'll only see on tuners? Do you buy multiples of your favorite cars and paint them every color possible, like I do?
 
I do not prefer any "class" of paint chip, it depends on the car and his function... for example, I have a Nissan 240 for drifting which is Matte Light Green. On the other side I left the silver colour on my decent-tuned TT 2007. As I said, it depends on the car.

If I only look at the colour, my favourites are:
Lightning Yellow (99 Skyline GT-R)
Serengeti Sand (2006 G35 Coupe)
M.N.P II and M.N.P III (From the Skylines, you know)
Champion Blue (1996 Skyline LM)
Ultimate Opal Black (2009 SpecV)
Phoenix Gelb (BMW M3 2004)
Sepang Bronze (M5)
Viper Very Orange (guess)
Atomic Orange (2009 Corvette)
Titanium Gray (I think that is the name)(2007 GeeDee-Arr:))
Brilliant White Pearl (again, 2007 GT-R)
Feuerwehrrot (300 SL)
aaaand that violet colour from the 2005 Cooper S
 
I like the way the UK version has Paint Crisps in various colours.

Favourites?

Mazoria Seyfert
Roadkill Red (Matte Dark Red)

Probably not the best system for painting cars, but it is different/silly quirky.
Often it is an oddball colour you remember most.

And, of course, Light Grey Metallic. How can you live without that one.
 
Best blue in GT5: Tonic Blue Metallic. It's a Honda chip, but I don't know which car(s) it belongs to.
 
I really like the yellow paint chip (forgot the name) you get when you buy the 370 Z also the matte black paint you get with the Lexus LFA looks good too.

That's a good example of the blue.

The Black Sapphire Metallic and Sapphire metallic is a good one too.

Really dark blue, and looks black in certain light.

There's barely any cars it doesn't look good on. I just want to know what Honda it comes on. Is there a GT5 paint chip index which lists the paint chip names for all cars?

Not that I know of.
That would take a while to make. I may do it sometime. Another thing the hybriding tools are good for.

I used to be an "all painted in Black or silver" guy, but I've become more open towards colors. Especially these:

-Any medium metallic blue that resembles Interlagos Blue from BMW
-Tornado Rot from VW
-Dark Metallic Red from the DLC Paint pack (looks epic on the Viper SRT/10 coupe)
-Papaya Orange from Audi
-Some Maziora colors like the Mazeran (which looks beautiful in the TVR Tuscan).
-Metallic Plum Crazy. (looks awesome in Lambos, especially the Aventador)

These are most of my favorites. Might have missed a few. But I'll agree with the OP that most of those paint colors are some of the nicest in the game.
 
Most of my favourite colours have already been mentioned - just throwing in Vert Hurlevent from Citroen. Looks good on most cars in my opinion.​

Can anyone tell what this green is?

i love this tone of green on my F430 but cant remember the name, as i dont have Gt5 on my PS3 any more i can't go and look. I'd like it again for my GT6 F430
