I think that since there were threads about improvements that GT5 could make, there should also be a thread about what improvements/features GT5 has made since the last few titles! (I don't know if there already existed one, but I don't see it active :))
I'll start first:
Day/Night Transition

I think this feature has made the game better overall, as (I think) tracks with this feature were a lot better than the original ones. PD has put a lot of effort on this one, and has done a great job. Also, it adds a more realistic feel to the game. :)

So, you can tell us what improvements you think have been the best in the game, and express your opinions freely! Enjoy!

One word: Cockpit. I don't care if you're slower with that view. Since I play for fun and enjoyment, this is the greatest addition for people who like to immerse themselves in a game.

Other things might be day and night transition like you mentioned, and dinamyc weather.

The option for putting body kits on some cars is also highly appreciated. Sometimes a small rear spoiler with a set of nice wheels can accomplish that personalized look that you desire.

The painting system is something that should've been done since the first GT. Although the chip system is a bit wierd, I'm very glad that we can paint our cars freely.

Sounds. If we compare to GT1, although many still complaint about it, the sound has improved drastically. In this last version of GT, we have more and more cars with a correct sample, plus, the game sound goes far beyond better than what other games deliver. Yes, there are still cars with an incorrect sound sample, but no one can't deny (if they have a good connoisseur ear) that PD really worked hard on improving from the last installment of the franchise. Still, the changing of the exhaust hurts the realism in most cases.

Personal BGM. What music lover doesn't like this.

As for improvements in the last updates, I'm glad to see that little details that only some of us notice have been fixed. That proves that PD is listening to feedback, no matter how unnimportant it is. As for an example: I've been spamming threads for more than a year with the fact that the M5's front brake calipers were misplaced. Something that no one has mentioned. To my surprise, and total joy, that was finally fixed.

Many cars had gauges that didn't work properly, like the two new Vipers, the M5, S13 Silvia, SL55 Benz, and many others. Most of them have been fixed completely.

The sound of the Lexus LFA was terrible in the first versions of the game. Being a car that is recognized by its sound, this was unforgivable. It has been improved now.

Loading times in the game have been reduced drastically from earlier versions, even though I haven't installed the game completely.

And there are many other improvements when comparing to older titles and previous versions of GT5 itself. Unfortunately I would have to extend this post too much.

I'd also go for cockpit view and things like day/night transition and dynamic (or even static) weather becoming available, especially cockpit view in combination with GT5's physics ensure I already enjoy this title more than any previous GT-game despite all its other flaws compared to previous games.

And it's the first full GT title with online being available, which is a massive improvement given you use it selectively (even though it was logical to expect it).
Being able to paint your car and its wheels is something I really enjoy too, maybe not a gamechanging new feature in the world of driving games but glad it finally arrived in the GT-universe.

And although a bit strangely implemented and therefor not reaching the full potential and impact it could've had, the ability to create your own tracks is a great addition, if you experiment with different settings you can generate great layouts.

And finally, damage, both mechanical but also visual, sure the visual part is limited and often looks awkward but at least it largely shuts up those friends of mine who always said: "hardly realistic is it with the car looking pristine after a crash?" but also because it provides visual info in online races as to what may have happened to an opponent.

I personally think the main two game changers they have released were as follows.

More standard Customization, (practically only the Wheel Designs...)
I think it was a big deal because it just makes the 75% of the GT5 Car Population look that much better, and probably used more.

Second.
Cockpit No question. It puts you into the Game so much more :)

If I'm not mistaken, the gauges are easily visible now. They used to all be blurry.

I'm most happy about the ability to choose time of day for offline gameplay and the surface "wetness". I forgot what that's called.
The weather change settings, too.

.

-12-16 cars on the track. I would always dread racing against a paltry 5 opponents in the earlier gran turismo's. And, could you imagine battling against 31 A.I. cars in GT6? I just J.I.P.-ed.

-I believe the Force Feedback in the steering wheels has been tuned in to a high level of intricacy. It is outstanding, for sure.

-The UPDATES. What a difference an update can make, huh? Physics and sound tweaks, the ability to set your car up while the race is loading, new cars and tracks, cockpit view and wheels for the standards, the addition of options like A.I. Difficulty setting, 'Remove Gear Indicator', and full control over the time and weather conditions have all made this game THRICE as good as when it shipped. Awesome.

-The simple fact that PD has chosen to recognize damage, bodykits, weather, and the effects of time is a tremendous leap and I'm fairly excited to see what the future brings. If they keep their finger on the pulse that is GTPlanet, then we are in great shape.

Hands down it has to be changing the wheels on standard cars :D

Cockpit view the best update, really? I can't believe how many people find that 'update' acceptable in a AAA PS3 game title. It's appalling.

Whats wrong with cockpit view?

Better than none.As far as i'm concerned any update is an improvement.Gt5, "the game that keeps on giving".

In my case I was comparing with the older GT titles and the fact that they didn't have cockpit view.

As for the update that adds cockpit to standards in GT5, I have nothing to say. It's still not good enough to be used, in my humble opinion. Exept for the Prowler.

Physics and Force Feedback on my G25.. 100 times better than GT4, and better than GT5 version 1.xx. Now if only they'd start working on A-Spec the same way.....

No silly nitro
More cars on the grid
paint is nice - nothing like buying a LFA Lexus for that Paint Chip to get your Hello Kitty Themed Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 just right.
Side look camera are nice

Cockpits - not bothered - nice to have options.

time transition -

Countach

I agree 157% only to the standard cars only.
Sorry, I been a fiend for gt since gt2... So its hard for me to finally say... It's such useless waste of space on my ps3 hard-drive. It's just a terrible version (sometimes even not correct to the right dimensions, look, and missing side mirrors a majority of the time) of what they call silhouette art!
I know, cause i love art, lol useless :(

The first things that come to mind, as far as being new to GT5, would be bodykits, carbon bonnets, Painting cars and tyre marks.

👍👍👍👍 it's barely decent, but you never know. They've evolved the standards since the game launched, so I expect more improvements. Not soon, though

personal BGM is my savior, too. I couldn't play as much without that.

UnionStrike \/\/\/ TRUE but that improvement is a given. I'm sure most people didn't realize PD would improve them after the game released, so in that case 👍

Physic engine, GT4 had one of the worst physic engine ever, and GT5 made amends for that.

Do you count additions to the game?
If so, track creator is a welcome addition to the game, but there is still room for improvement, if they could get more manual control over the creation, people could start making there own dream tracks.

Other improvements which have made this game a lot better for me, is the already mentioned physics engine, and day/night shift, as well as more Cars on the grid.

One notable thing they went backwards on, is the tuning, it's a lot more simplified, but worse then previous GT's.

I think the reason there isnt any manual input for track creation would be people would have the ability to create licenced tracks that PD dont hold any rights to.

Its a minor thing but important nonetheless:
- they sorted out the user BMG random playback mode not repeating itself when suspending an enduro race. Did the Le Mans 24hr, but every time I'd go back into the race after suspending it, the music followed the same pattern. A small annoyance.

Now, it starts with the same song each time (Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb for the Nurb 24hr last week) but then the random element takes over.
Thanks PD!!👍

Guilietta73, as much as I appreciate your taste in music- I believe this thread is about improvements GT5 has made in the series- as in things that weren't in GT's 1-4.

BIG ups to the OP for such a thread. It's good to soak in some positivity every once in a while. Especially around here. I understand that most of the negative vibes are clearly PD-induced, but still... More often than not, we lose sight of the "constructive" when it comes to our criticisms. We could do better.

The fact that they finally added Lamborghini and Ferrari is nice.

Exactly. And so for 16 cars on track. It was a requirement, such as rollovers (ONLY in offline mode, why ?)
But unfortunately, the cockpit view surely takes too much time to model, so the production of premium cars is slowered.
I like the aerodynamic tuning (splitters etc.) on premiums. But they have almost none effect to cars handling as i know so far.

Frankly, i cannot see anything truly better, apart from graphics, which is apparent in terms of new generation game console.

EDIT: weather and daytime are nice, but why not on every track ? :(

Re-read the OP again..

ModNationRacers allows you to completely and freely create your own tracks manually, so I doubt licenses are the issue here as I don't think a license distinguishes between a sim or a fantasy arcade game.
