I'm seriously worried about the small amount of cars on the track. I know nothing is for sure yet, but at the moment it seems there will not be more than 8 cars on the track at the same time, which sucks big time in my opinion. As you know, GT5 Prologue had up to 16 cars on the track. Now, taking away half the cars from a race is equal to taking away half the experience from a race in my book.

So, why have PD reduced the amount of cars in a race to only 8 instead of 16. Most likely because they have improved the graphics, added damage and added weather. As a result you get the best looking racing game (or simulator if you like) ever, but will it be the most exciting? I don't think so.

Again, nothing is certain, but if I recall correctly, no trailer or demo seen the last 6 months have had more than 8 cars on the track, so we'll just have to wait and see.

What's your opinion on all this? Do you prefer more cars on track before looks (as I do) or the other way around?

They have already confirmed 16 car races, and some earlyer demos did show 12 cars. Stop complaining.
Plus this topic is being discussed in the E3 thread.

I think into some track they'r 12 or 16 cars and into some others 8 only (like Nurb, or long and full of décorations things and buldings tracks.)

The longueur of track is important too. For exemple impossible to have a good race in Eigher with 16 cars in same time.

And It's will depend of car style too. Some cars have more than 500 000polygones and others ones have only less than 400 000 for exemple.

Another things, the trees eat lot of games ressource, and can compromised the FPS. So have 16 cars with more 500 000 polygones, into big Nurb will be very hard for the PS3 processor.

Maybe i m wrong...

For 2hr+ endurance races on big tracks, I'd be inclined to agree with you, as the field becomes spaced out and it gives you more people to race with.

But for shorter races and smaller tracks, especially under 10 laps, 8 cars is okay for me. I wish it could be more, but I would rather have day/night and other goodies. Although I see your point that we are sacrificing pure gameplay for aesthetics.

The number of competitors is probably dependent on the track, like others have said.

The thing is, in order for the day/night cycle to be of any use, the race has to be long, and with only 7 cars to compete with it will get boring pretty quick.

A 24h race at Nürburgring will be quite lonely 23 hours of the race. 16 cars isn't much in a 24h race either, but it's at least twice as many as 8.

Yep it's quite a pickle. We still aren't sure though. I hope they sort something out...

They confirmed 16 cars online, so I wouldn't be so worried.

Not exactly, for instance they could have a race start at 8PM which would be around dusk so you would see the sun setting.

Thats not the point. 24 hours of racing would get boring quick with only 7 other cars, whether it gets dark or not.

You also need to add that besides the 12-16 car grid, the night/day cycle, there's also the physics which happens to be quite good- a huge improvement over past GT games.

8 or 16 ill be happy with all the improvements.

But I think it will be selective depending on events (as stated above). Especially with Nascar.. Imagen that whole straight Pit at Daytona with only 8 pits occupied. Would look kinda odd. I dont think PD would do that with the game looking as clean as it seems to.

And only half the amount of cars in a race compared to a 2 year old demo. Yeah, the improvement is huge indeed. The game has only been in development for 6 years (almost 7 by the time it's released), so 16 cars in a race is asking too much I guess.

;)

They only race 8-12 cars in the demos so they stay at a solid framerate. We know they can drop on occasion.

What is the issue here? There is a very clear reason why they do this.

Wait until the Full game is revealed.... .....now you may sleep.

Indeed. No need to worry about stuff like that.

However, if 8 cars on track means damage, customization, livery, and day/night racing, I am 100% fine with that.

Ya I was about to mention that, the # of cars is probably reduced for these public demos, so that the game runs as smoothly as possible in its still unfinished state.

Yes, that too.

Surely it has to work harder in single player because of the AI, irrespective of whether it's any good or not.

I'd say not, based on how restricted some of the online races were in Prologue, but as with all things, we'll see.

Only thing I'm worried about is non-premium cars not having a dashboard view, but I still can't w8 for this game!

I'm going to repeat, premium cars sport both types of visual damage. Exterior and interior. All cars sport exterior damage, premium cars have both.

The game isn't completely optimized yet, which explains why we aren't seeing full 16 car grids, also some courses are too short to have a 16 car grid make sense for a 2 lap race. 2 cars on Rally stages max, and the lowest for normal car races would be 8 cars I assume. Either way I can't wait to hit the digital road against you guys. I'll most likely be in a Saleen S7 👍

Okay, but I didn't say I was worried about damage. I said I was worried about only Premium cars having the Dashboard View.

All cars have interior view, premium just means interior damage happens to the interior. That's all chief.

I was watching the E3 trailer and during some nascar clips there is more then eight cars on the track im pretty sure of it. And the rest of the trailer there is alot of close up looks and it would be hard to see 16 cars on the track with alot of the angle we saw. Thats just my theory, and im pretty sure there is more the 8 cars when they showed nascar
