What were the best games of the last console generation.
Please provide one answer for each console...
PS2
Xbox
GameCube
PC (game from 2000-2006)

Once you've provide your pick for the best game on each system please feel free to list any other important runner-ups.
Thanks for giving your opinion, hopefully this will help everyone to see what should have been played just incase you missed something special on the first time around.

I will start things off...
PS2: ??? (can't really say right now)
Xbox: Half Life 2 (hands down the best FPS I've ever played)
GameCube: Resident Evil 4 (best game of the entire generation if you ask me)
PC: ??? (I don't have the PC power to play PC games) :ouch:

Sega Dreamcast = Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2 / Resident Evil Code Veronica (tie)
Sony PlayStation 2 = Final Fantasy XII
Nintendo GameCube = Resident Evil 4
GameBoy Advance = Final Fantasy (all of the remakes)
Microsoft XBOX = Forza / Burnout Revenge / LotR Third Age (tie)
Nintendo DS = Final Fantasy III (so far)
Sony PSP = Final Fantasy Anniversary (duh, see a pattern emerging?)
Nintendo Wii = Tiger Woods Golf

PC = too many too list...but I'll try.

StarCraft
Dungeon Siege
SimCity 4
Unreal Tournament
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2

There's more but I honestly can't remember. I own (legally I might add) several hundred PC games alone.

PS2 -- tie between GT4 and star wars battlfront 2

X-box -- Halo 2

Gamecube -- Super Smash Bros. Melee

PC -- Star wars knights of the old republic

Since I have to pick one for each...

PS2 -- Enthusia Professional Racing
Xbox -- Project Gotham Racing 2
PC (game from 2000-2006) -- Live for Speed S2
GameCube -- Super Smash Bros. Melee (er, yeah...not much of a racing game system)

...I have to say, though, I really like a lot of PS2 games, as well as a few of the other GameCube classics (particularly Metroid Prime 1).

PS2 - GT4 or San Andreas (runner up - Guitar Hero, either one)
Xbox - Halo 2 hands down (runner up - Forza)
PC - (not sure if it counts) Oblivion, CS:S, or BF2

It was kinda hard for me to narrow it down but I did the best I could.

PS2 - God of War (runner ups - GTASA & GT4)
Xbox - RSC2 (Liek OMG its not Halo?!? Yes I'm a sucker for rally games.) (runner ups - Halo 1&2, PGR2 and KOTOR games)
PC - Half Life 2 (runner ups - AOEIII & Steam(CS:S, DOD:S, etc.)

Theres prolly a few I forgot because I haven't played them in awhile but I tried to put down the ones I remember having alot of fun with.

Xbox – KotOR (runner-ups RSC2 and PGR2).

PS2 – I can't say for sure since I'm trying to catch up on all the games I've missed, but either Okami or GT4.

GCN – Super Smash Bros Melee.

The only two consoles I've had the chance to play multiple times is the PS2 and Gamecube. I'd say the best PS2 game is GT4 (99% of the forum agree that one of the few PS2 GT titles is the best) and the best Gamecube game in my opinion would go to Mario Kart: Double Dash, despite my (lack of) luck when playing in multi-player, especially after a few drinks. :ouch:

PS2 - Kingdom Hearts (And KH2)
--- Excellent blind of action, story telling, and good game mechanics made an RPG I actually completed. Which is saying alot.

GCN - Metroid Prime
--- Atmospheric, mature, and relatively long for the time (15 hours so for most people's first play through). Plus its quite pretty to watch ;) Runner up on the GCN would be Zelda: Windwaker with the wonderful story and graphics.

XBOX - Forza
--- Online racing game that was realistic (ish) and pulled people away from GT4. Halo would be a runner up, except to me its nothing new really.

PC - Half Life 2
--- This needs no explaining.

My experience was all offline with the Xbox and I don't have any PC potential for gaming. :ouch:

That's the reason for my Half Life 2 Xbox pick. 👍
If I had the power on my PC to run Half Life 2 satisfactorily I would definately pick HL2 on the PC and something else on the Xbox. 👍

Xbox: (maybe?)
PGR2, Ninja Gaiden, DOA2U. 👍
Those were all great. However, I never played KOTOR or Jade Empire, or owned an accesible Halo 2 online connection. :ouch:

If I had highspeed Halo2 (as I played at a friends on many occassions) then I am sure my experience could place Halo 2 at the top of Xbox's list.
One problem though... I'm not sure it can run online anymore.
If you can't run Halo 2 online then you just have to run the offline and for that... BOOM!@!@!@! Half Life 2 is so much more awesome. :sly:

PS2... I still can't make up my mind. :dunce: :ouch:

Oh, and Game Cube...
Still hands down RE4 (easily and easily the best on any system for me... Favorite game of all time... there, I said it  ).
Although the talk of Metriod Prime makes me want to try adapting FPS controls just to experience what others consider the Platform's greatest game (although I still doubt my opinion will change due to the strong dual joystick FPS preferrence I carry).

It's just that I have a hard time playing MP (only the old stuff since I don't have PS3 or 360) when a still relatively un-explored Vice City is sitting only 12" above on my shelf. :D

My picks:
Dreamcast: Soul Calibur
Thats current gen?

Take a good look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_console#Sixth_generation

Actually the Sega Dreamcast its part of the same generation has the Sony Playstation2, Xbox and Nintendo GameCube, the well known has the 6th generation of video games consoles.

With that said:
Sega Dreamcast: Shenmue 1 and 2 - (and still the best games I ever played in my whole life)
Sony Playstation 2: GT4, God of War 1 and 2 (Graphic Explosion)
Xbox: ? (Never Played)
Game Cube: the Legend of Zelda (always)
PC: Neverwinter Nights 2, Unreal Tournament 2004...

PS2 - Gran Turismo 3
GameCube - Marior Kart Double Dash
Dreamcast - This one's kinda hard. I probably have 20, 30 games for this, but it's probably either the Resident Evil Code: Veronica, or Aero Dancing(JPN).
Xbox - I've only played a handful titles, so I have no idea.

PS2 - Too many, but tied between GT4 and God of War I/II
XBOX - Forza & Forza 2
Dreamcast - Crazy Taxi <---YEAH!
Lamecube - Smash Bros. Melee or Mariokart double dash
PC - dunno. Never played on one

So why would GT3 be better than GT4 when it GT4 out does GT3 in every category. Whether GT4 did anything new has nothing to do with it beating the previous game everywhere.

Easy to answer this one for me. GT3 is the only game that I literally could not put the controller down. I once played this game until I was so dizzy, I nearly threw up. After laying down for little bit, I played it again.

GT4, great accomplishment for P.D. I got bored with it real quick though. It currently is my favorite game, but I am in no way addicted to this game.

That still doesn't make GT3 better than 4. What is common is people don't get that same felling they got with the previous game. I tried GT3 after 4 and can't go back to 3 because of the physics, car list ,track list and lack of full DFP support. It is the better game and if someone asked "what racing game should I get" would you recommend GT3 over 4, if so why? GT4 was more like GT3.5 but it was a good upgrade.

It isn't even really a difference of realism, because 3 and 4 are just about as realistic as each other (GT3 has a bit of an edge). Gran Turismo 3 is just 1000 times more fun to play.

...GT4 out does GT3 in every category.
The only advantages GT4 has over GT3 are cars, tracks, B-spec, and Photomode (and two of those aren't really important). Sound didn't improve, graphics barely improved, career mode gameplay was 10 times more tedious and unrewarding, 2-player mode was worse, and arcade mode became a bit frivolous.

Ok but would you recommend GT3 over GT4 to a person and why? I like GT4's single player sim mode progression. "Tried" assumes you dint play very long, but if you say the physics are similar then that would not be a factor. GT3 with the DFP is not enjoyable. You are stuck with 200 mode and what street car turns 200 degrees. Its more realistic when turning in GT4. But I think this is going too far off topic. I'm opt debating a persons opinion on GT3, just why they think GT3 i the better game when GT4 does all the main functions better.

GT4 is the perfect game for car enthusiasts and racing fans, Complex string is pretty much all GT3 has going for it. There so much less to do in GT3 unless you enjoy doing the same things in the same cars. Or do you even stil play it? My view of is games you still play. If someone gets bored with GT4 how on earth do they not get bored with GT3?

GT3 lacks the Nürburgring, and GT4 is no fun to play. So I'm stuck recommending Enthusia. :P

I'm at 70-something percent in GT4.

I play all PS2 games with the controller. My G25 is only used for the PC.

It could have been, and it was looking to be that way up until the day it was released. Too bad the physics turned out worse than I could have ever imagined.

I still play GT3 now and then, but, predictably, I'm much more likely to play Enthusia.

So you've never played GT3 or 4 with wheel but it has bad physics?

You mean, for you, it doesn't. We are judging these games on different merits.

But if GT4 bored you how did GT3 not bore you. I just want to see it from your perspective.

It sounds bad, but it felt a bit more arcadey in a good way. Cars were more fun to drive. Especially the Formula One cars. :P
