Best "simulation" tire for road cars?

Just bought an Audi R8 4.2 and it reminded me of a test R&T did with the same car on Laguna Seca with Gran Turismo 5 and in real life (another "comparison").

I believe they said comfort mediums were used, but I'm not exactly sure.

My question is to as which tire is best to replicate real life track times and/or handling for all road cars? (Ferrari's, Alfa's, Ford's...everything except race cars)
 
In The David Coulthard Time Trial For SLS , Comfort Softs Were Used.... So I Imagine They Are The Closest To Real Life....
Maybe For Less Powerfull Cars It Would Be Comfort Hards..

That's what I was thinking too: softs/mediums for sports/super cars and hards for your daily driver.
 
Regardless of the skid pad G rating (which in RL can vary from tire to tire, depending on the tire manufacturer, how grippy is the road, how wide is the skidpad turn radius, etc - it's pretty much a pointless information unless it always comes from the same source with very clear test conditions), I go in this way:

  • Comfort hard -> Cheap, energy saving, low rolling resistance tires that can be found on econoboxes or many city hybrids/electric cars
  • Comfort medium -> all-around general purpose quality touring tires that can be found on most passenger cars
  • Comfort soft -> sports driving oriented tires suitable for most driving situations (although they might be not so great on wet conditions)
  • Sports hard -> entry level semi-slick tires for track-day usage. NOT suitable for all-around driving on public roads, although road legal.

Most road legal cars should have comfort tires.
I find that in GT5 the "stock" tire choice, especially on standard cars, is often one class higher than what it would be in real life.

It's true however that a problem in GT5 is that tire specifications are hard-coded in car specifications.
When for example you buy "sports hard tires", their performance vary depending on the car.

So got to wondering today about this and I know it has been discussed before ad nauseam, but couldn't find anything like this with the search function. I took about 100 cars from 2001 to 2010 and found the original or suggested tires through a online tire shop and than inputed what tires are on the car stock in GT5. Below is the chart with the outcome which may or may not have an error here or there for you to make your own conclusions.

Also as far as I have seen no car comes with racing medium/soft tires and sport soft tires seem to be reserved for cars like the Amuse, Spoon, Mine. etc. I only looked into it briefly so I could be completely wrong about that.

The problem here is The 03 BMW z4 comes with potenza re050 which in real life are soft street tire and very grippy.
Also on the list is an Aston Martin DB9 with the same tire.
The game gave the Aston sport hard while the 03 z4 got comfort soft. The 08 Z4 has slight hard real life tire and get Sport hard in the game. Inconsistant


Nobody knows but many are close.
