Best Steering Wheel

Best all around option: G27
Why: Best bang for the buck without going bargain bin. Easy to mod. Decent shifter.

Best Shifter: T500RS+T8RS
Why: Not a fan of the wheel or its pedals, but the T8RS is the best shifter for GT5 bar none.

Best Investment: Fanatec CSW+CSPV2s
Why: Best wheel and pedal set for consoles bar none. But it is pricy and there is no good Fanatec shifter yet (CSRE is bleh)... but there is the ClubSport shifter (likely to be pretty darn good) coming... eventually. You could use an adapter (I forget the name) to use the T8RS with the CSW but that may be a bit much for you.

They don't ask for a serial number?

Nope, nothing. You literally don't need anything according to my friends who ave done it recently. Just say the FFB motor went out or something.

The T500 is highly regarded as the number 1 wheel for iRacing. I agree the pedals aren't the best but throw in John Bodin's load cell and they are a much better pedal. Remember though you can buy the T500 wheel, pedals and shifter for the price of 1 Fanatec wheel.

I think the G27 is OK but not in the same league as any of the belt driven wheel, the G27 is a great set up for a budget, I owned one until it died prematurely, in which I received a full refund.

If I had the money right now I would be looking at a T500 or the new Fanatec with the GT rim. A shifter would be the industry standard (PC) a Derek Speare Pro Sequential Shifter and for pedals a set of Todd Cannons CST 's or perhaps hold out for Derek's soon to be released pedal set. For those that don't know about his gear, he is widely known for his quality work and products.

Keep in mind the OP has asked for the best wheel, I have pretty much had every wheel on the market including Fanatec's CSW Elite and their Porsche 2 wheel, Fanatec's CSP's Logitech's G27, Thrustmasters T500. I have used some of the lower end Logitech's wheels that a friend uses, not sure on the model. I have used wheels going back to 1979, I have a cheap SEGA model which is laughable compared to todays offerings. Overall the T500 gets my vote as the best wheel. It does perform much better on a PC then on the PS3 however.

I've been thinking about getting a steering wheel for GT5 but I'm not sure which to get. Which do you guys think is the best to buy. Also consider the price. I require it have the clutch pedal as well as the stick shift. I'm not worrying about paddle shifters but if it has them then it's fine.

The cheapest steering wheel that is at least half-decent is the DFGT. I have it and it's really good value for money if want something to drive with but don't want to spend too much money on a wheel. If you have money to burn though, you might want to consider the more advanced Logitech wheels like the G27/G25. And if you just happen to have more money than you know what to do with (lucky you 👎 ) then you can buy a T500 or one of the Fanatec wheels. Be aware that while the Fanatec wheels work with GT5, they don't have the official support so you can't change the button configuration.

I believe the op asked what wheel is the best for GT5 considering price. He also said is wants a clutch and h pattern shifter. Given that, the g27 is the obvious choice.

I really do not care what people on the iracing forums think of the T500RS. I owned one, did not like it and returned it. You cannot swap out the pedals in GT5 and that is the title the op stated.

I actually like the helical gears better than the belt. Belts seems to muffs out some effect I feel on G27. I like the ffb to give me information but doesn't like to fight the wheel as much.

Get a T500rs with the shifter. Consider it an investment into your gaming future. You can either look forward and take advantage of the latest coding. Or you can spend less and get technology that is the past. The G25 was a major step forward from the DFP for all of us. Then I went from a G25 to a T500rs. They are vastly different. If you can force yourself to be patient, save for a better wheel that is ready for the future and take advantage of the best coding available now.

The older Fanatec wheels are competing with the Logitech wheels. The Fanatec CSW and the T500rs are the only wheels that are looking forward. Yes, they cost more. As they say, you get what you pay for. Think in terms of Toyota vs Lexus.

The old Logitech wheels were outstanding in their time. The future is right in front of us.

I have tried them all, for GT5 I recommend the Thrustmaster T500 all the way. Then someday you might want to try iRacing and other PC racers. The T500 is the number one choice of iRacers for a reason, it's the best wheel on the market.

It seems I hear all sorts of problems out of people with "the best" wheels and pedals. I preordered my G25, which hasn't had any problems apart from the shifter wires coming loose (addressed with the G27 shifter), and I've since transferred the G27 shift mechanism into my G25 shifter. Best of both worlds.

The one thing I have been wanting to do is rig an e-brake, I've seen tutorials on how to I jus need to find an e-brake handle lol make just that more realistic

"Best" is relative... Look at the fast guys in the WRS, most on G27, some on DFGT and the odd T500 and Fanatec. I've tried the CSR-E and much prefer the G27 (more realistic car control feedback), even the CSR-E owner prefers my G27 ;) And this is in GT5.

That is so funny, I hear all sorts of problems out of people with "the best" wheels and pedals. my G25, which hasn't had any problems apart from the shifter wires coming loose

the only problems I hear from "the best"wheels and pedals and shifters are broken down G25's and G27's :)

If you want a great deal on a G27 look Here

Get the T500RS with the shifter or the G27 with a playseat. Personally, I think the T500RS is way too expensive for most players.

Check my rig photos here in forum, ive tryed the fanatec, stiil i prefer the t500rs..its just the feeling...
