Hello

I want to record some races using my digital camera. (Samsung WB650)

720p MP4 (high quality) 40 race mins 2.8GB
720P MP4 (low quality 40 mins race 2.4GB
640 x 480 SD 40 mins race 1.1gb

I would like somebody to recommend me some software to convert/compress to a smaller video size so that I do not have to wait an age to upload it to youtube. Hopefully I will not loose too much quality, as I know that youtube (once uploaded) will also compress the vids.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

PS

My girlfriennd has a Canon S95, it shoots a nicer quality video vs my camera, though not sure what codec/file or if the video size would be larger, will have to check when I am back home tmrw.

Handbrake. If you have a fast quad-core CPU and a 64-bit OS it is blisteringly fast - on my computer (Intel i5 750, W7 x64) Handbrake converts at 130+ frames/sec for most videos under 720x576 without adjusting quality; I imagine 720p files would convert at around 1:1 (60 frames/sec) if you want it to compress the video in the process.

Only video converter you ever need. 👍

Cool,, my computer is a little old. (2.7ghz, overclocked core 2 duo,was 1.86ghz E6300) But should be fine to convert. I run win 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I will take a look, at both suggestions. Thanks

PS

Also how about some good but simple to use video editing software, is windows movie maker good enough?

For conversions, I'll throw Any Video Converter into the mix. I've used it to convert videos for both the PS3 and, more frequently, the iTouch and it's always done the trick.

As for editing software, I can't help you there.

I figured I'd give this go as I'd like some software like this, but I cannot find a 64 bit installer.

That would be because there isn't one - if you install it on a 64-bit system the installer installs 64-bit Handbrake, install on 32 you get the x86 version :)

I have a 64 bit system but it was installed in Program Files(x86) meaning it's 32 bit. Or did it install to the wrong folder?

It's still 64-bit, as it turns out it installs a 32-bit executable that supports 64-bit (I could've sworn it used to install an actual x64 version, guess I was mistaken!). Make no mistake though, Handbrake does support 64-bit and runs stupendously well on such a system.

It has a 64bit version for OSX, but the Windows Version nativity supports both.

Only downside with handbrake is that it doesn't support GPU encoding. But if you've got a fast enough CPU it doesn't matter too much and you get better quality, in my opinion, anyway. Though it'd still be nice to have.
