I realize this is a Gran Turismo oriented site but it's the perfect place to ask and the community looks very welcoming thus far after lurking a while so I thought I'd give it a go.

I've never used a wheel before shy of using my old wheel back in the Gran Turismo 2 days (curse you S licence) and I thought I'd get myself a good one, what with all the surreal looking games now available on the PC, the problem I have is finding good reviews and a good resource for wheels, I'm looking for one (with pedals) that's around or under £80, I've been looking at mostly the Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 at £90 (just over budget which isn't great but what little reviews I can find make it sound unbeatable in the price range) and the £45 Ferrari GT experience
which is a little on the low end of the spectrum price wise but again, great reviews for the cost.

What I'm looking in the wheel is great all around compatibility for just the PC (Dirt 3, F1 2011 etc), I get my GT5 fix at my friends house on his G27 every couple weeks (bonding session), size and force feedback are a must, I don't want a dinky wheel that feels cheap and tracky and I feel a wheel without force feedback will not immerse me in my game enough, and a stick shift is preferred but as you can see from my picks so far neither of them have it.

Again, thanks for any recommendations I really appreciate it and I'm very lost with all these wheels, I do live in the UK so price wise £80 is about $120-130.

Thanks again, take care.

Logitech Driving Force GT

A really great wheel in that price range, its also possible to find a cheaper DFGT used on eBay, Craigslist, and Amazon.

I found the Driving force GT for £85 at the cheapest which is a reasonable price, same as the F430, so the Logitech is better than the F430 (for the PC in particular)? I do want to point out I'm more so getting a wheel for just fun, I want it to be a great experience and as real as I can in the price range but I don't plan to play any simulators other than F1 2011 if you can call that a sim.

And thanks VileFC.

No problem

From my understanding, the DFGT should be perfect for your standards 👍
I have a friend who uses the DFGT and it definetely gets the job done for a sim such as iRacing and an arcade such as Initial D Extreme Stage.

I do appreciate the help but I really want to get this right first try, I've read a few reviews and so far the F430 is just more well liked over the DFGT, people say the DFGT shifters are just buttons and are a cost cutting exercise they shouldn't have done (although I thought the DFGT had a stick shift thing? little confused on that one) and it doesn't have quite a heavy, more surreal feel to the F430.

The 900' on the DFGT is great but I don't know if it's necessary, I'll be playing a lot of Dirt 3 and I have no idea if I'll be using all those degrees, I'm more concerned over the DFGT's shifters, as I said people have been saying they're small and just out of place but I swear it had a stick shift stuck on the side of the wheel...

I've never heard of a F430 wheel, but I am guessing Ferrari F430 replica wheel. lol
I guess it is better to see if anyone that tried both wheels can post their opinions here.

Although I still have an issue with the DFGT, people are complaining about the button shifters because they're buttons and not paddles but from every picture I can find it uses a gearstick, I'm so confused, that and will I use 900 degrees?

There are two methods of shifting

sequential gear shifter, which is the stick on the side, where you press up and down with it. Then the button shifters that are behind the wheel are the paddle shifters. The button on the right shifts up, and the button on the left shifts down.

There is an easy solution to the button shifters.

If you combine them with the wheel that's over £100 which is way out of budget unfortunately, but honestly I'm good with the stick unless I'm missing something, the stick would be a more realistic experience no? I understand those flappy paddle shifters are the norm in today's racing cars (excuse my poor racing lingo) but a shifter would make me much more happy, would feel I'm actually driving more than paddles.

Unless I'm missing something of-course, I just hope if I go with the DFGT It'll have ample compatibility for my PC games as the wheel seems to be mainly focused towards the Ps3.

Awesome, I am more of the traditional stickshift person too :)
Back when I had a Black Logitech Momo (crap, dont buy it lol) I never used the paddle shifters.

Dont worry I am sure that most of the buttons, wheel sensitivity and such are usable and precise on the PC, since I did tried iRacing on his PC. I'll be sure to ask my friend though for more information though. :sly:

Fantastic, I think you've swayed me and I'll try for the DFGT, hopefully I can get a good price as in the UK they're above £100 in most places, but £90 from argos and a few on ebay I'm keeping my eye on.

Thanks again Vile.

No problemo :)
