I don't know that I would have shelled out for 64bit to run a 32bit app, but not a bad machine. Is Battlefield 2 worth the investment of a whole new computer?

Well - Getting the 64 bit CPU is just a bonus for now - but you'll be ready once the final version of XP64 arrives.. And it's no slower running 32 bit so there really isn't a trade off....

But a 64bit desktop OS won't be available for over a year. So why not save your money and get a much better CPU when there's an OS to run on it.

Maybe I'm just a tight wad. I'm not interested in bragging rights that "I had it first".

You can't get a better CPU for the money... AMD doesn't make any 32 bit CPUs anymore, Intel as well has been putting the 64 bit instruction set in their CPUs for a while as well...

And there's plenty of 64bit Linux' available, as well as the 64 bit preview version of Windows XP, for free, should you so desire....

[Edit:]Linkage to the trial version of XP 64 bit here

Why spend loads on a CPU that you know will be outdated in a year? Then, you need to shell out even more money to get a 64bit CPU and a new motherboard as well in a year. What's the point in buying outdated hardware? 64bit CPUs aren't much more than 32bit ones...

I like my FX53 - dated or not ;)

It's still 64 bit. You're ready for the future. Plus, if your AMD64 has FX in the model, you know it's fast. WICKEDLY fast.

Guess I'm off to bed now ;)

hey,
I am running the same set. it is WICKEDLY fast and smooth. "Runs battlefield 2 like a dream" is an understatement. I got all my stuff from dell and it was about 900 bucks sucks to find this price now but whatever a quick game of battlefield will get the extra money i coulda saved off my mind PEACE!!!

I guess what I'm saying is, why buy now when you could wait a year and get something much better for the same money and actually make use of it.

Lack of patience? That's what I lack.

That graphics card isn't quite up to BF2 standards surely? It's no-where near good enough to start buying it now anyway. Wouldn't it have been worth spending another few pennies and getting something newer?

then why not just wait 5 years and buy 5x OMFGBBQSAUCE better. its only 680$ as he went cheap on the VC. for most gamers a few hundred bucks is WELL worth what they are getting in return.

That's just what I think.

If it were me, I'd have got an nForce4 SLI mobo. I'd also get a gig of ram and some more hard drive space, but that'd just because I seem to run out a lot :P

Looks cool though, rounded cables would have tidied the innards up a bit :)

As I have categoricly stated in another thread, GeForce 5s are NO GOOD, overheating, dodgy pixel shading, and it turns out that they only have 4 pipelines. A 6600gt (128mb) is better in almost every single way (except if you have a massive monitor)

NO GOOD!!!

I like the 3000+ though, and the cooling.

And as another user said an nForce 4 chipset will allow some "future-proofing"

thumbs down on that videocard. I thought I'd being seeing some real flagship stuff.

that case a poser-esque and ugly too.
