Does anyone know what happened here?

I was doing a classic japanese race and i gave my engine an overhaul before the race. when i started the race i noticed all the cars steaming past me afterward i checked the bhp of the other cars and i notice the same car as me was 143 bhp where mine was 118bhp. the question is are the ai cars using modifications?

very confused.

I am curious if anyone knows. I too have been in some races with a stock setup and the AI seems to pull away in the straight sections. I always thought it was the transmission setup and I had either picked the speed setting too low or too high.

Before you go in a race press the button to check the competition there you will see exactly who you might be facing. For example the veyron is 950+ bhp but in a race you find it at 650bhp. AI BHP vary depending at the level you will be doing them. In conclusion you may face the car but the performance is different according to the event's difficulty!

The Yaris race at the start of A spec should have been a warning to you, yes, alot of the AI cars will be faster than you, especially in a straight line, even if you have the same car as them.

I guess it's done like this to induce you into modifying your car or finding a faster one, or improving your driving skills - as you can generally corner faster than AI cars if you get it 'right'.

Basically, it's inducing you to investigate the game (tuning, set up and finding new cars) and to better yourself as a driver.

So if this is true the bhp is just made up and has no bearing on the oposition car at all.
If i want to race against a 200 bhp i want it to be consistantly 200bhp not 250bhp on the straights.

At lower levels of A Spec the AI cars are very slow in the corners but very fast on the straight.

The advantage you have on A spec is tyres and and therefore grip and subsequently corner speed.

BHP does not determine how fast you go round corners nor does it change bewteen corner and straights, grip, balance and handling does have an affect on corner speed.

You can have better tyres than the AI cars, so you corner faster, but when it comes to the straights they are faster than you in a similiar car i.e. a drag race, especially on a long straight like Fuji, in a slow car, like the Yaris.

It evens out the further you get in the game, it becomes alot easier.

For instance, A Spec GT All stars series, I was able to beat superier Le Mans cars with a japenese GT car, despite a huge power to weight disadvantage, because I had soft racing tyres on, they didn't.

However, it did take a bit of practice, setting car up for each individual race and consistent, fast driving with few mistakes.

Don't read to much into the speed of the AI, look at what cars you are racing in ''typical opponents'', look at previous and current threads in this forum for advice on what cars to use for what levels, what cars to buy and what cars to avoid.

Don't get too hung up on what the AI is and isn't doing, what they should and shouldn't be doing, it'll drive you mad. There are alot of faults with this game, but use this forum, learn from other people's experiences and mistakes and try and enjoy the game, there are some very good bits to it.
