The rules are as follows:

  • Entries will accepted until 11:59pm (GMT) Wednesday 31/7/13
  • Each competition's voting will last for one week. The winner of that round will choose the next theme.
  • All entries must have been taken within the last 6 months and preferably after the announcement of the theme.
  • Entries must be posted as a thumbnail no larger than 700px on the longest edge. Full sized images may be as larger as you'd like.*
  • You must submit only your own photographs, do not post anyone else's work.
  • Only one photograph per person, marked with Final Entry. You can change your entry, but must remove your current entry first and clearly state that you have posted a new entry.
  • You must not vote for your own photograph when the Poll is up. Only vote for a photograph taken by another entrant.
  • The photograph must be submitted with the following information: Subject, Date and Camera used and, if you'd like, the major camera settings - shutter speed, ISO, etc.

*While full sized images may be as larger as you'd like, you should try to limit them to approximately 1200px to enable viewing the entire image without scrolling. It's much easier to see the full effect of the shot when you can view it all at once and not have to pan.

Current theme, chosen by Week #27 winner Sprite

Ansel Adams - Replication of the world famous photographer

I like the theme, very different from what we've had before. I might find it hard to replicate some of his work, it features a lot of dramatic landscapes and stuff, of which there are none where I live.

You have Somerset as your location, its a beautiful part of the country. I'm sure you will be fine. 👍

Since I'll be going on a vacation trip for the next 3 weeks or so, I might be able to actually slide something in here.

Excellent theme! I'll being going to the west coast next week and I may even be able to get my hands on at least a medium format camera for this. Finally my tinkering around in the dark room could pay off.

Sorry about my entry being late.

Just to be clear on that: does it have to replicate one of AAs photographs or merely be inspired (i.e. a beautiful landscape photo) by his work? :)

More of an inspiration I think than a direct replication. However it may be worth checking with Sprite.

You just got a D600 so it wouldn't really be fair if you competed anyways... :scared:

;)

Solo is correct, its just a starting point for inspiration. I like the image Casey, very Adams with the tree.

I have no idea where to go around here, to be honest...not the slightest idea. So figuring that out might be most difficult for now. :p

Thank you.

Ansel's photos weren't limited to landscapes, although that's primarily what he did I think. He did portraits as well as some street photography I believe. 👍

I was at the zoo today and saw something on the way back, might be my entry. Except if "portraits" includes animals. :p

Aww snap, this is not gonna be an easy comp to vote on that's for sure! I'm so jealous of everyone else's clouds. :dopey:

Haha.

I'm not sure what to do here... I have some bw landscapes (taken in late June), but they're not much like his style.

^ same problem,

I have no time to take anything new so I have a shot from May that I might use.

I wasn't gonna try this, since I have ZERO B&W experience, but since I did go to Yosemite this spring......

For having no experience I'd say you did a great job! 👍

I changed mine. While the view may not be as vast or epic as my first submission I think it fits Adams' work a bit better in some respects, mainly composition wise. I also think the rocks are just mesmerizing to look at, something that can be found in his work.
