hello, does anyone have any tips for someone looking to get into road riding as a fitness thing? Before you think it, it has nothing to do with the tour. I joined my school cross country running team and I'm looking for other, non-impact ways to train. Since I don't have a pool or access to one, riding seems logical.

Try this site. It's full of useful tips and advice for road cycling. I found out a lot of things that helped me to improve my own fitness levels through this guide.

Try indoor cycling (sometimes called Spinning) at a local gym. It's just as good of a workout without being so expensive. I go two or three times a week. It will send your cardio endurance through the roof. It's awesome cross training for running. If you can keep it up you might even be able to get into triathlons (gotta swim though).

This.
Spinning is ridiculously good for CRE. I've only recently started going to it. 👍

I tried a spin bike once last week and it annoyed the crap out of me. I prefer a stationary bike exponentially more. I might give it another go sometime, though.

The bikes in gyms just don't feel right... much better to have a stationary real bike IMO.

Awesome, i'll have to try this. I don't like treadmills, prefer running outside. So I imagine being stationary will similarly be unappealing to me... But I think that in this case, it'll work because I'll be saving a lot of money. Thanks for the replies. And big 👍 on that road-bike.co.uk site, very nice.

As right as you may be, a full at-home setup isn't cheap if you're starting at zero. The cycles at gyms are also not made equally - some definitely feel better than others.
