Hi guys, i just want to ask if bioshock is a worth getting, i am not sure if i should get it or not.

So i am just asking for your opinions.

i played it briefly on pc, but i never get anywhere with games on pc (i a lot of the time jump from gaming to pc constantly and doing both on the pc is near impossible as i cant monitor the screen). So i got the game on ps3 now and am yet to start it. However having played it on pc a bit i can tell u it is a very very good game. One of the best definitely.

You may want to check out the official PS3 Bioshock thread in this forum as well as the official 360 Bioshock thread for a great deal of opinions about the game... of which I think you'll find the vast majority loved it!

My feelings about the game have not changed:

Creative Storyline + Diverse Gameplay Strategies + Brilliant Graphics + Immersive Sounds = Bioshock 👍

After all, it didn't take home the most wins and the highest honor of 'Game of the Year' at the 2007 Video Game Awards for being your typical FPS game. :)

(Although despite my deep appreciation for Bioshock, I still think Uncharted: Drake's Fortune deserved the top spot in 2007.)

bioshok was a great game, i played it on the xbox360. Awesome graphics and story line. Gameplay was fun too. The plasmids are awesome. if the ps3 version is like the xbox360 version i would recommend it to anyone who's into FPS. Rapture was definately a fun place to explore. :)👍

Take a Star Wars FPS, remove lightsabers and add fire and ice to force abilities. Mix in a bit of heavy moral choices, what I feel was a good control scheme, and a creative story and you get Bioshock.

Now that you can find it for $30 new and even less used I would say it is definitely worth it.

My only issue I have with it is the idea of an objectivist society relying on American dollars for their currency.

Hahahaha, I never thought of that :D

I guess a story that far out can't be without it's plot holes ;)

Like in Mass Effect (which basically takes place across a galaxy) uses "years" as a unit of time.

Once I actually finish the story I am going to write up a full review from an objectivist point of view.

But seriously, turning the dollars into some unit of gold (which was used in Atlas Shrugged) would have been simple.

Heh, I didn't pick that up at the time. I imagine the dollar was a strong currency during that period but its not like Rapture would have been a major importer / exporter of goods.

As to the game itself, it's wonderful, a real treat. I did find the whole biochambers thing to be a bit flawed, but it was still one of the gaming highlights of 'aught-eight for me.

The thing is, in Atlas Shrugged, which is where the idea of Rapture is blatantly (and admitted by the writers) taken from, before joining Galt's Gulch everyone has their assets switched to gold, because its value is not arbitrarily changed by the strength of everything around you. Objectivists have a major issue with dollars, as they are not actually money of any sort. They are promissory notes offered by the Federal Reserve, which was once backed by gold (Fort Knox) but then the gold standard was dropped and now it means whatever the markets say it means. Suddenly your worth is no longer based on your labor output but on what the rest of the world says your paycheck is worth to them.

So, it is actually extremely out of place in an Objectivist society. I honestly believe that it is there on purpose to point out that this is broken Objectivism. It is why there is not a ton of Ayn Rand fans trashing 2K. Any that played it saw that it was not meeting the ideal thought, that it was broken before it began. Personally, until I got the backstory leading up to the point where things begin to truly collapse I didn't see it. But after learning more about Ryan I saw that Rapture was doomed before it began, and it had nothing to do with Objectivism. That was when the dollars made sense. One of the first things you see tells you why it didn't work.

It is a pattern in the game. Some of it is blatantly spelled out, some of it isn't. But from the very first "Would you kindly" everything that is wrong is in front of you.

Nicely spelled out. I'm not familiar enough with the source material, but i could appreciate the extent of the calamity as the game progressed

Aw man that brought it back... now I just HAVE to replay the game to see how it hangs together a second time!

For anyone interested in Bioshock 2, I suggest checking out http://somethinginthesea.com/

It looks like something with a red glowing light on its head is coming out of the ocean and kidnapping young girls all along the European coast.

And there was an interesting doll found on the beach.

That last bit makes more sense if you have seen this:

/\/\/\/\ SWEET!. I heard about it but haven't seen anything yet. I will definately be jumping on that once it comes out! :)👍

Well, with Game informer revealing thier next cover that site I linked makes much more sense:

Between this and the teaser trailer, I am guessing some Little sisters have grown up and returned to Rapture.

I haven't finished the game yet, and still need to go through again killing every little sister, so don't spoil the last bit for me.

Whats the best option, saving or killing the little sisters.
Well, it depends on what you are after. There is a trophy for not harvesting any little sisters. If you save them you don't get as much Adam but every third saved sister will earn you a reward 200 Adam and plasmid that can only be gotten from them, so saving them is also necessary to get the Tonic Collector trophy.

If you kill them you can upgrade much quicker and become more powerful early on.

And of course, there are different endings based on how many you kill (I think more than two gets you the bad ending).

I just completed the good ending last night after saving all the little sisters. Beating the game also unlocks the Bioshock 2 teaser trailer I posted above.

Now, doesd anyone know if you can get the Historian trophy over multiple playthroughs? I missed one audio diary that I couldn't go back to get. :ouch:

I'll take a little break and then go back and do my survivor with no vita-chambers trophy. If I have to refind every audio diary for the Historian trophy then I might save that for a fast Easy run specifically to do that.

It only took me three weeks, but I had to set up the site first.

The site is still in the early stages, but I wanted to write this up while I still had the story fresh in my mind.

Spoiler Warning

Basically, it comes down to the fact that Andrew Ryan failed to follow his own philosophy.
