Anyone seen reviews on this new BlackBerry yet? Basically it's a Porsche designed BlackBerry with the functionality of the Bold. It uses the same leather and metal used in Porsche cars.

The price for this bad boy is $2,350 but only available in the UK at the moment, and will be limited in quantity with its own unique PIN code.

What's your thoughts on BlackBerry's new addition? RIM was on the verge of bankruptcy, would this help?

Here are some product specs and reviews.

Engadget.com - BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9981 Full Review.

Official Specs and features from BlackBerry site.

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this phone already. Some say it's good, some say it's ugly and some say it's a waste of money. There's nothing much to talk about the internals because they're simply off the Bold 9900. The only difference is the outer shell which obviously here, the Porsche Design with a metal and leather casing and a special theme which is already available for the typical Bold 9900 to download.

To me, the design is simply not my cup of tea and therefore, I don't like it. Never hold one before but I bet the build quality will be at it's top notch. If not, I will be very disappointed. The goodies you get in the packaging is all different to the Bold 9900 like the dock charger which ironically, looks gorgeous compared to the phone itself!

For the price, I'd say it's not really worth it unless you wanted something different, special and stand out more from the others - can't blame you if you buy it. I'd rather go for the Bold 9900 because as mentioned, I don't like the design and the price is also cheaper but with same functionality.

Whether this will help RIM to stray away from the edge of bankruptcy is, from my view, not at all. The sheer price of the phone will mean that they will sell less of this. What more when they made it to be a special edition and only so far available in the UK. If they ever come up with a statement of saving the company by releasing this, they really deserved to be bankrupted. Harsh, but you get it.

If they want to save the company, I think they should release a somewhat special social phone that is cheaper than its rivals, packed with functions and is affordable for people to buy it. That way, I think they can get some profit with hope that it will get the company away from bankruptcy.

As the day goes by, more Blackberry users are leaving them and move elsewhere. They have to find a quick solution, seriously.

I think it'll sell alright in the UK, they seem to be the only people aside from businessmen here that use Blackberry phones. It probably wont sell well enough to recoup the costs of designing a "Porsche" phone. But damn, all the teenaged girls are gonna want one. Just think! A phone designed like a Porsche!

I hear the next line up of phones will have full touch screen phones with no hard keys (Torch).

In terms of saving the company, I think having at least ONE full touch phone will benefit them as that is the future of devices.

Most people that still hang on to their BlackBerry are in it for the hard keyboard, BBM, and E-mail. In my opinion, this isn't enough to hold a customer. My wife has a Bold and was sold on the BBM with keyboard (using it for 2 years), now, she's finally came to the realization that this isn't enough to justify a $600 device.

This new BlackBerry is a sign of desperation, in my opinion, because they're catering to a higher class of customer that will buy something for the "Porsche" name slapped on it.

I've actually seen a couple of pictures of full touch screen Blackberry in GSMArena and if they release it, I'd say it's not a mistake but as you already mentioned, one of the reason most people want to use Blackberry because of its good QWERT keyboard aside from the BBM.

Whether it will give Blackberry any profit still remains to be seen but it will sell, surely. Interested to see how this will turn out to be. It's a shock honestly. Roughly two years ago, people especially my friends were crazy about Blackberry, all of them had Blackberries while I stick with my trusty Nokia N97m. Just end of last year, everybody switched to something else. What happened to the Blackberry craze people?

iPhone.

I've got a 4, and I honestly can't think of a better phone for me at this point in time aside from a 4S. Battery life is great, the screens great, it plays music, games, can be used as a portable computer for a few hours if I'm out and about.

What can a Blackberry do that an iPhone or an Android phone can't? Not much.

Break? LOLOLOLOLOL

In all seriousness though, I know people who keep using them purely for BBM. Which is insane given that Facebook Messenger is just as good and uses very little data.

I've dropped my phone numerous times, hasn't broke yet, the screen protector did get a dent in it from one drop though.

I also use Facebook messenger on my phone too, really no data use.

So yet another useless thing on the market trying to claim their a supercar.

Acer do it with their Acer One Ferrari which is slow and looks nothing like a ferrari apart from the rossa corsa body and the Ferrari badge.

Asus have the VX-7, while this does kinda look like a lamborghini in its lines it is overpriced for what it is.

Of course a device that has been "designed" by a company that regards itself as having racing pedigree will mark up the prices. It has happened in the past. Porsche Designs has even "designed" CRT monitors that Best Buy used to sell as their own inhouse brand.

It's not the hardware, it's the OS. I have an BB Edge I use for work, and the OS is just sooo far behind my Nexus it's laughable.

If they don't have a complete ground up redesign of the OS, RIM won't be around much longer, you can quote me on that.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware. They're as good and as tough as any other phones but I agree, what let them down is the OS - they're boring as hell. There's nothing much inside there. They may be good for businessman, receiving and sending emails, chatting and all but then most of them have already move elsewhere, notably the iPhone 4S. Because my dad did so

Most Porsche Design stuff usually looks tacky and ugly IMO. Porsche is a total sell out plastering itself all over junk, a bit like Lambo. This phone however does look reasonably stylish but not $2,000 stylish. I've seen similar designs from Sony Ericsson which cost like $500.

I don't see why Blackberry continue to flog the dead horse which is the qwerty keyboard. People want big touchscreens plus on screen keyboards work great these days. They should drop their OS, go Android and bring all the stuff that's good (like BBM) over to it.

Well touch screen based phones vary for the responsiveness of their virtual keyboards. Some are good but I like a physical keyboard over a touch one which you can mistype. Companies like LG do still make phones which have a full qwerty keyboard.

...but I like a physical keyboard over a touch one which you can mistype.

Exactly and also the reason why I still stick with my N97m. My fingers are simply too big for touch screen typing and I struggled a lot to get used to it.

I think the Lamborghini is much more expensive, uglier, much more uninteresting. I'd rather have the Porsche Design than the Lamborghini...
