I’m still on the fence with this one. It’s supposed to be a limited series which suggests just a one off and concludes itself after 8 episodes.
I love Michelle Yeoh but she is hit and miss with projects. I have never seen Hunter Shafer’s previous shows so an unknown quantity to myself but that’s ok by me as isn’t setting expectations.
The big ones for me is 1. Are the sets and costumes etc. going to be as lush and beautifully detailed as the movies? 2. Is the score going to be good.
From what I can see from the teaser and trailer the visuals look ok, and they have taken some ideas forward from the films, however the first film was black and blue with small splashes of colour but in a realistic grading. The second film has a muted grading but again with splashes of very intense colour, this show looks like a very colourful show and personally I’d have preferred a more muted main palette (something akin to the recent HBO Dune Series).
The soundtrack / score again seems to be taking a cue from the second film (in tern took some small ideas and themes from the first) but it’s only a small taste so I’ll have to wait to hear the whole thing.
I won’t go into the tripe that chap is trying to sell.
Personally I have no issues at all with two female leads and I have no issue with a trans women being part of this.
For me Blade Runner isn’t about sexual identity but is about Human Identity. Is this being a human or a synth.
As I say from an acting point of view Michelle has hit and miss roles. When she is on form and has good material to work from then it’s fire but if either one is not there on the day then it’s a disaster.
Shafer is an unknown to myself so I have not got a clue of her acting ability is good or not. But I’m willing to give her a chance and judge for myself.
Out of both series coming up, I’m probably going to enjoy Neuromancer more but who knows.
Hopefully Neuromancer is a bit easier to get into and follow than the book. I've tried a few times to read it but keep giving up.
Big fan of Callum Turner and some of the other cast. also the showrunners previous work.
I need to rewatch Blade Runner (and watch the newer one), it's been years since I saw the original.
Didn't really like Euphoria as a whole but Hunter was one of the better parts of the show.
So, let's get this straight:
Transhumanism: "Jawohl Elon, give me the brain chip and I'll find a way to work 200 hours a work for you!"
Transgenderism: "ENTARTETE KUNST REEEEEEEEEEEEE"
