Blue lap times - what do they mean?

Hi everyone,

I was doing a bit of career mode last night (GT300 and GT500 tournaments) and I was watching my lap times in each event. One thing I noticed was on some laps my time shows in a light blue, other times show as a white time.

Does anyone know what this means? I have a couple of theories but haven't been able to prove either of them yet.

When you set a fastest lap (only counting your own lap times) it's light blue.

I thought that too, but then I'm sure I ran the following times around Suzuka last night:

2:02 (Blue)
1:58 (Blue)
1:59 (Blue)
1:56 (White)
1:58 (White)

Surely the 1:56 should have come up as blue?

Are you sure about the 1:59 lap?
 
Supposed to be fastest lap. But sometimes on rare conditions its glitched. Here its supposed to be:

2:02 (Blue. New fastest lap.)
1:58 (Blue. New fastest lap.)
1:59 (White)
1:56 (Blue. New fastest lap.)
1:58 (White)
 
Because it was so buggy I was wondering if it's blue when you've overtaken a car during that lap, or if you've kept 100% on track (no shortcuts on hairpins, no running into the grass by mistake, etc.) but that didn't seem to be accurate. Fastest lap being blue makes sense (and what I originally thought!).
 
For future reference if your running in Arcade/Time Trial mode or online Free Run individual sector times will show up blue if you ran that sector faster, and red if you ran the sector slower.

That being said on the most current 550pp Seasonal Time Trial event I occasionally get a white sector time as I pass over the line. As I don't know my actual sector times and I'm concentrating on running the lap I don't really know why it happens. My best guess is I maybe ran the same exact sector time?

Never tried looking at that. Might check it out tonight. Makes sense though.
