Im sure this has been answered before but when I try to search a LOT of stuff comes up and is very hard to navagate
Ive only had the PS3 since this Christmas and have had online abilities for a few days now

Is it possible to lower the microphone setting (on headset) to a point where I I can have the game volume at a reasonable level, still hear the conversation, and not get yelled at for my tv being too loud

Why is it that when somebody hears a driving wheel they are always shouting out "He's got a wheel" or "who's got a wheel"

Thanks for the help I have been playing gt4 and 3 on the ps2 and am not used with online play yet.

You can alter your microphone levels under Settings>Accessory settings>Audio Device settings

As for why people say that.. *shrugs* mics tend to pick up the noise wheels make quite clearly so people will hear it and some comment on it like this.
Some people are less tolerant than others when it comes to that noise, I have been kicked before because I refused to stop using my wheel.

I use a wheel and have been surprised at how loud other people's wheels can sound.

On those occasions I use a mic online, I'll put it on mute during the race to limit distractions.

My advice, get a gaming headset.

Ditto. Hated hearing people's wheels or even annoying background noise from other people that aren't aware that their mic sensitivity is too high.

Bought a turtle beach headset (not sure model) with adjustable game & mic volume.

It would be cool if you could wire a button on a wheel to activate the mic, sort of like push to talk.

The option you might actually be best suited to use.
From the GT Mode main screen, very left of the screen click the small 'gear' symbol. Select 'Options'. Scroll down to Hardware, and then go to the right and select 'Audio'. Here you can control all of the game sounds.

I didn't realise you could alter your microphone sensitivity in that sub menu

Many people that hear a wheel want to know who it is. I always ask who's got a wheel because I only like racing/drifting with other wheel users, it keeps it more fair and even. There are exceptions though, there are many controller users that are smooth too but I still prefer going against a fellow wheel user, just my preference.

It just seemed rather odd, that the conversation in one single ear, was so loud, that he had to turn his TV up, to the point, that people in the next room would complain about it. Thus, I included a potential correction, to a question he may not have actually asked, but may have needed to know the answer to regardless. All the while, purposely quoting your response, because it was the correct answer, to the direct question at hand. But 🤬 me for trying to be helpful and thorough right?!?

What? I wasn't being cheeky..

I wasn't aware if you could alter your microphone sensitivity in the sub menu you suggested so I was asking if that was really the case because I had just turned my PS3 off and didn't want to get up and turn it back on.

I had already discussed a solution to his problem in detail in few PMs to him :)

Don't most, if not all, mics have a sound/ear piece volume adjustment on it? Is that what he's looking for? Or is he looking for how to adjust the mic level?

I know mine has a volume adjustment but not mic sensitivity.
His problem is more about the fact A) his mic is too sensitive and/or B) his TV is too loud. But as I said I already discussed this problem with him in a PM ^_^
