In 2008 BMW launched the facelifted 3 Series sedan and Touring models. Soon the coupe and coupe convertible will go under the scalpel for a facelift. These spy pictures show a white prototype of the coupe undergoing testing in Munich. Judging from the tailpipes it appears to be a twin turbo model. The E92 3 Series Coupe has been on the market since fall 2006.
Mainly the front and the rear end have been disguised to varying levels, leading to the conclusion that these two areas will receive special attention in the redesign. New air intakes, foglights, a new rear bumper and rear LED lights are all expected to be included. Whether the M3 coupe will also get a facelift remains to be seen.
With the facelift expected to arrive later this year as a 2010 MY, the next generation 3 Series range isn't due until 2012.

Personally, from what's exposed, I can't see a single difference...
Maybe comparing pics of the current E92 model there's a slight more curved bumper, or some small detail that I'm missing, but overall, looks basically identical. Grilles looks somewhat bigger though.
Unless the car's just a mule for some new engine or something of the sorts. But that doesn't explain the bumper intakes covered.

Glad to see BMW has realised that the recient 3 series convertable was one of the best looking beemers for a long time and have now plastered its front and rear on the rest of the range, including the new Z4.

Its like Merc and the new C class, that boxy look was perfect and now the rest of the range is starting to take cues from it as the new corperate face.

Robin.

Looks exactly the same.

+1

I'm very much nonplussed on the coupe anyway. The saloon is where it's at with the 3-series. Like many modern BMWs - a little odd at first, then looks better when you get used to it. I'm slightly indifferent to the softer look of the 3-series coupe and the less dramatic new Z4 they've recently come up with.

A friend of mine has one, so i really dont see the diference!

I've been staring at the picture for a good 5 minutes now, and here's a list of what I think they've changed:

  • Removed BMW badge from front

The end. And that's probably just a test mule exercise anyway...

I even stuck it in Imageready to see if I could work out the differences. Take a look for yourself (but not if you're on dial-up - it's massive).

The BMW badge is gone because that car in in camoflauge. There is ZERO difference on that car versus the current. It quite literally looks the exact same. What a joke.

and here's the hoping that it would actually be lighter than previous one..

It is a facelift, not a new generation...

I can't see much of a difference though, so wonder what they could be hiding?

It's not a new chassis and what's the point in road testing a mild face lift if all the intakes etc are covered or compromised in some way - of what use would that be?

I'd say they're testing a new power plant too. 👍

^^ My best bet too.

So, what differences are you guys seeing on those pics, comparing them to the current production model?

I think the blinkers are different. They used to be made in Germany, but these seem Chinese. ;)

Because there's camo. all around the lower vents. It doesn't look any different now, but the lower vents when released will probably be different.

The lines coming from either side of the grill also don't stand out as much as they do on the current cars.

You mean the ones on the hood? I think they are identical/same.

I've been looking at pics I had on my HDD and comparing them to the ones on the supposed facelift car, and the only thing I think that I see different (probably just due to my eyes hurting from squinting so hard at the monitor) are the sidemarkers.

If this is in fact a facelift for the E92, it's the biggest pile of bullcrap I've seen in a while. :yuck:

I think this may be the most effective restyle since the Jaguar XJ. Seriously, I came into this thread expecting the fail that is the restyled Z4 and the new 7 series, and BMW managed to greatly exceed my expectations.

They changed the taillights, I guess. Also, the facelifted car is white, and the 2007 car is quite frankly more of a gray.

Could be. The silver might just make them stand out more.

That's a pretty quick conclusion considering that everyone seems to be forgetting the lower vents are camo'd. A facelift doesn't necessarily have to affect the whole car's front. Look at the 997 or the Mustang. There wasn't any major restylings, just minor changes to front.

BTW, look at the very bottom of the bumper's center. Notice how the bumper cuts upward more, similar to the LP640's?

I can't believe I didn't notice that they changed the paint! Good eye, Toronado!.

Whatever the case - I love the look of the BMW 335i. It drives amazingly! The torque was crazy but of course i'm coming from basically a Nissan Maxima. I loved everything about it beside the price tag. Too expensive but maybe one day...

... the coupe looks so much better than the Sedan in my opinion.
