This is the car which Jean-Luc Bertrand, a french rally driver has competed with. He has finished 15th overall (3rd on the category F2000 and 1st on the class) on Rallye Régional des Thermes, 4th overall (winner of the category and class) on Rallye Régional du Quercy. He has also competed on Rally Rouergue Aveyron and the result was a retirement.
In next year, he has competed in the Rallye Régional du Thermes for the 2nd time with the same car as previous year and unfortunately, he didn't finish the rally.
In 2009, he tried his luck again with Rallye Régional du Quercy and his result was 6th overall and 4th between F2000 category drivers.

At June 29th 2011, Bertrand putted his BMW on sale.

I was always kind surprised the E36 compacts weren't used more than they were in motorsports.
