Autoforum has revealed leaked photos of the BMW i8 concept as
a open-top Spyder variant which is reported to debut
at the Beijing Motor Show in April.
With i8 prototypes out in full force testing in public recently, the spyder version comes as a surprise

It's real, official release of pics is due very soon. The Concept car seen here will premiere at the Beijing Auto Show. BMW are considering it for production alongside the i8.

Interesting point of this concept car is it pretty much shows us the production doors for the hard-top, since we know it's not getting the glass ones.

Anyway, I like it.

I wonder how much awesomeness will be lost between concept and production forms of the i8? I'd buy one second-hand.

i love everything about it, I really hope it still looks like this come production time, it would look so futuristic and modern and 21st century like next to all the bland designs we get nowadays in the industry.

The scissor-doors look good... but the car overall looks pretentious. If it doesn't go as fast as a Lambo... chuck it.

I dont think the car looks that pretentious, or maybe you were talking about the scissor doors? i agree the doors might be a bit too much, but the look of the car strikes me as just a performance roadster, like m3 type fast or something.

I meant the entire car. 350-ish HP? I think the glass makes it outlandish at such a low power. I thought glass was supposed to reveal something special. I don't see anything special. Without substance, it's pretentious, and that's why I said that. If someone tells me that it is functional, then I'll change my mind. If it's for style, especially thinking of the i3... then no.

I fear someone has utterly missed the point of the i8.

Basically.

I'm endlessly impressed with the details and execution, based on what I've read. Very likely will end up getting one second hand if I get a decent job in a couple of years, maybe new if job is nice enough.

So does Tom Cruise drop out of a BMW fighter jet and use a BMW powered rocket parachute to land into this car to chase a BMW Z4 in the next Mission Impossible movie?

Thats not what its ACTUALLY going to look like though right. There wont be that much glass?

These i8's are all concepts so far right?

Same here. Although it's far more than a couple of years for me, but it's a very intriguing car and it'll definitely be on my list if and when I hopefully have some decent coin, assuming kids don't happen by then. Although I can always buy a POS Honda Odyssey for a couple thousand bucks to get groceries and cart a family to and from hockey.
