Maybe one it's manual and the other have the sequential gearbox... Maybe that's the weight difference...

That would be easy to spot, since the manual is 6speed vs 7on the smg version. But i don't think m5 05 came with that option, only later, closer to 08

Here's a simple way of looking at it in my opinion, '05 for outright speed and '08 for a track build courtesy of the option for a flat floor. ;)

The '05 is the one in GT4. I never noticed a difference in performance since... well... I haven't touched the 05 since it's Standard.

There is something funny though, and it is that I think the '05 is better modeled than the '08 despite the lower polygon count. It looks wider and more aggressive.

It's been found that premium versions of duplicate cars tend to handle better. Why? Only PD knows...

There not duplicates :\. 2008 better technology, etc. On Sport Hards its hard to make the tail go out. Its very grippy. While the 05. Is well quicker, and bit less grippy.

But the 05 more fun to drive.

A lot of premiums, and some standards that were slightly changes from GT4, have weird stances. The wheels are either hidden, tyres too skinny, or ride height too high.

I only have the 05 but it handles really really well for a big car, I was shocked how much grip it had when I first bought it. I saw some people couple days ago doing well online in the 08 so I'll buy that soon to see what it's like.

I've just run both of these for the Nurburgring Lap Times Leaderboard (link in my sig).

I'd run the '08 previously and thought it was quite a nice car to drive... so I decided to test them back to back.

They are both a bit understeery on turn in, but as long as you manage the entry speed carefully, they have a lovely mid corner balance and plenty of traction on the exits. The '08 has a slightly better balance than the '05 (less understeer, changes direction better), but the '05 weighs 140kg less, and is a decent amount faster in a straight line.

Both are stupidly fast at the 'Ring for a big saloon car. With just an oil change, but otherwise completely standard I ran;

'08 7'24.746
'05 7'21.993

Neither lap was anywhere near perfect.

The 05 is much better: i mean i had an accident with both of them and you can barely see it on the 05 whereas the 08 is destroyedish... i dont know why modern cars are becoming so fragile
;)

Or maybe because the '08 is a premium car, compared to the '05 standard car.

Hence the wink haha
