Im a bit wary of using my usb with GT as ive just wiped a game on the ps3 i have at work to upload my saved game from the ps3 i use at home, to find out it won't allow me to upload it!
Thankfully it's 547 game days & not actual 24 hour material.
Basically everytime you see a loading screen on GT5 for example after you've completed a race it'll start a new day with new cars in the used car dealership so you can fly through the days pretty quickly if you bash GT5 enough.
Skipping through the licenses (loading one and then going to the next one) also quickly passes the time. That's how I got most of my cars from the UCD.

It's pretty easy to use a USB to get the car you want. You should try it. Just get your hands on a Level 23 ticket first. I got lucky with the McLaren F1 when it appeared in the OCD not too long ago, but I've been successful in getting many cars I wanted with having two accounts and 2 USB's to play with. It's also good to have a back-up copy of your game-save handy just in case something happens.
