Hi Forum

I have just won the BMW McLaren F1 in the GT All Stars. I have my gearing sorted for race setup with is between an Auto 13-18 depending on the track or use the tranny trick with a gear ratio of 2.700 for Sarthe 2 or 2.800-3.000 for Sarthe 1.

Now I need some tips or advice on set up of gearing for the Test Course and to get top speed. Remember I have not equipped this car with any turbo's or NA setups for a challenge. It is bone stock tips for setting it up for top speed I want, I dont want to brake any records, it is just for advice for using this car for the GT All Stars in the Test Course and the Like The Wind race.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Minimal ride height, stabilizers, spring rates, downforce, shocks, camber, and toe-angle. Set your transmission to hit ~250 mph (400 km/h) unassisted, with about 3-600 rpms to spare so you can still utilize a draft. Once you reach open air, if you can cruise at 250+ no one will even catch up with you. The Nissan R92CP has about the highest top speed of the prototypes, and it can only go about 239 mph (~380 km/h) before the rev-limiter drops it back down, even with a draft. I've beaten this race with a tuned W12 Nardo concept (for 200 pts, naturally).

Thanks Ignignoc N Err, your advice was useful and managed to get the setup of the suspension and LSD up and running. Now I have another problem, it is now to set the transmission to go at high speed assist without slowing down. I can get it best to 220mph unassisted but need a draft to get at least 240-250mph to overtake the Nissan R92CP and once out of the draft I lose speed.

The curent ones I am setting up with as follows but needs a lot of improvement:

1st:3.597
2nd: 2.183
3rd: 1.513
4th: 1.114
5th: 0.860
6th: 0.704
Final: 2.700
Auto: 25

Or using the other settings which failed on me:

Gears:

1st: 3.485
2nd: 2.295
3rd: 1.600
4th: 1.265
5th: 1.005
6th: 0.804
Final: 2.600
Auto: 18

So does anyone have any tips or advice for setting the transmission for top speed without any turbo's or N/A tuning's for this car. So it can go about 230-240mph unassist and not lose speed whilst still getting a good draft speed.

Comments and views welcome and thanks for the help so far.

Hello!
I can give you a setup that is good for a top speed of 234 mph, but it has its downsides. The acceleration is not very good for example.
It does require some fiddling with the downforce and the suspension, so if you have a setup you´re happy with, write it down!

Ok, here it goes (F/R):
Springs: 4.0/4.2
Rideheight: 105/55
Damper bounce: 1/1
Damper rebound: 2/2
Camber: 2.2/1.0
Toe: 0/0
Stabilizers: 2/2

Downforce: 23/53

The suspension- and in a way the downforcesettings are based on the same principal used for 300mph attempts, so if you add a turbo and nitrous, you can try that out. Watch out for a wheelie though, since that is against the rules in the 300mph club.Unfortunetly this setup is crap on a roadcourse, so its best to go back to whatever settings you had before once you´ve completed the Test course race.

Gearing:
First slide auto to 25, the Final to 5.000 and then auto back to 1. when that´s done, set Final to 2.350. Set the individual gears accordingly:
1. 3.300
2. 2.200
3. 1.666 (No joke! It actually comes this way!)
4. 1.317
5. 1.100
6. 0.988

Best regards
