It is now 03:08 here in Germany. From 16:30 to 17:15 Nick Heidfeld will do 4 laps in his F1.07. That's 13 hours and 22 minutes from now on. Heidfeld won't be able to break the lap record, because he only gets "demonstration tires" (whatever demo tires are).

They’re hard as a rock.

4 laps, though. That’s a nice long run, assuming it will be four laps straight. I hope it is, that would be the most awesome half hour of F1 footage ever.

Surely, not in the interests of speed, but the interests of safety he should have tyres which actually have a bit of grip.

Demonstration tyres sound like ones they picked up from the wreckers to do burn-outs in.

It’s probably safer to have harder tyres. Just so the tyres are more likely to slide more predictably, rather than quickly snap and throw the car into the Armco. Which would, you know, hurt.

they are not doing part of teh circut for got the name starts with a K( it has the bank) as its not safe for a modern F1 car

Couldn't he just take that corner like they did earlier, on the outside? The inside concrete was originally something like a drain-thingy, until one of the racers actually drove in it...

That's the only other way. Dr. Mario Theissen said they set the F1.07 to maximum ride height, but like DTM cars, the F1.07 will not be able to go through the inner side of the Karussel.

Heidfeld also mentioned, that the demo tires were used in Melbourne, resulting in a ten seconds slower lap time. The Melbourne course is four times shorter than the Nordschleife alone. Heidfeld can be lucky if he stays under seven minutes.

Ten seconds? In a 1'30 circuit?

To, technically we can assume the lap he'll churn out at the 'Ring will be around 15% slower than he'd do on regular F1 tyres.

Heidfeld managed to get a 8:34 on his second lap. That was his fastest lap. Very disappointing time. I think the car could be at least 2 minutes faster.

LOL. Look at the tires. They look ridiculous! Plus this is not an F1.07.

Edit:
8:34 because the F1.06 was followed by a camera car in each lap...

It is a Formula BMW car. It's also not Nick Heidfeld's helmet.

Where did you find that picture, RouWa?

Disappointing.

Hopefully they're re-gain their conscience and give us a few laps in a true F1, with some real laps.

8'30? Roadcars do that!

If Babel Fish has translated correctly, the quote under the picture says the Heidfeld had a practice (inspection) run in a Formula BMW before he took the F106 out.

Yes. He took a round in the F-BMW first:

That Site
Auch der kleinste aller BMW Rennwagen war im Einsatz: Mit dem 140 PS leistenden Formel BMW fuhr Heidfeld morgens seine Inspektionsrunde.

Which (badly and loosly) translates to: "Even the smallest of the BMW Racecars was used: With the 140HP-powered Formel BMW, Heidfeld did his practice-lap in the morning".

It also mentions that, while none of the laps was full-time filmed, they also didn't let him have a single lap of non-stop driving. Rather than filming one or two laps, then letting him run wild for two others, they made him slow down in the middle of each lap, so it'll seem like a single video.

And it wasn't even 4 laps, it was only 3.

On 28th April 2007, the BMW Sauber F1 Team is to take a state-of-the-art contemporary Formula One car back to the Nürburgring’s legendary Nordschleife. During his run on the ultra-long, historic circuit, Nick Heidfeld will be accompanied by our cameras.

Following the spectacular event, you will find extensive video footage from different angles, here.

No videos yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Found a small image though:

Heidfeld raced the long version of the track (Nordschleife + F1 course, like in PGR3). And many people stopped his first lap with a 7:30 to 7:40. That's not too bad for 24,5 km.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm still looking for other sources. Maybe BMW will surprise us with a video of that scorching lap when they release the DVD.
