But that was pure speculation back then and there was nothign to say BMW would put a Z10 into production. This is almost as good as BMW openly saying they are actually working on it. You don't take deposits (especialy not from somewhere like Van Horsen) for a car your not making.
Yeah they said in it, they would put it into production. Plus it looked sexy.

i hate you live4speed, i was just going to do this thread but you beat me to it!!!!! i'll have to be faster next time! can't wait to here more about this car as well!

I think it will be Front engined RWD with 550bhp V10. I also believe it will be called the Z9 or 10 and will go up against 911's astons and audi r8's. It will only push porsches, audi's, and lamborghinis hand to give theyre cars a power spike.

BMW strive for 50/50 weight distribution for all theyre cars anyway so even if its not MR it will still be stonking.

Ah I understand, engine sit futher back in the engine bay...kinda like the RX-7?

Yes, just like the RX-7/RX-8.

One of the big upsides of Rotary engines, and why those cars are such a joy/handful to drive.

I tend to avoid using the term "front mid-engined," as it just causes confusion.

All "front mid-engined" cars are just FR's that were engineered with a 50/50 weight distribution in mind.

False: I've never seen a Front Mid BMW, though the 1 series with the 4 bangers might be close.

Front Mid means the engine is entirely behind the front axle of the car.

50/50 can be achieved other ways, Front Mid often gives more of a rearward weight bias.

I said that all front-mid cars are just cars designed with 50/50 distribution in mind, and you tell me I'm wrong because BMW's aren't front-mid...?

To put it another way, if I said "A is designed for B," you'd be telling me that I'm wrong because "C is designed for B, but C isn't A." ;)

The S2000 is essentially a Front Mid-Engine as well as those already mentioned.

Back to the topic...

IF BMW decides to make a Z10, I think that the styling will be a dramatic change from what we have seen in the BMW's of late. For some reason the "Z" series cars they offer always seem to break the mold of the current design, offering a glimpse of the way the company is going to move.

Yeah, a mid engine car is technically any car where the engine is between the axels, it doesn't matter if it's infront of, or behind the driver. Car companies and journalists etc adoptend the idea that mid engined was behind the driver only though, but they do call car's like the Lister Storm, Speed 12 and a good few other's, mid or front mid engined in some articles, it depends who's talking about it really.

EDIT never mind, late rely, didn't notice we were on a new page :p.

any more news on this , I think the can get more than 550bhp out of the V10 , Hamann and G power proved that engine could have over 600 BHP

Scroll down about quarter of the way, and you'll see some concept renderings I think.

BMW are to build a new Rear/Centrally mounted V10 rear wheel drive Supercar. Not since 1979 has BMW made a Supercar with the M1, but sources at BMW have revealed that a new Supercar, likely to be called the "Z10" is firmly on the drawing boards. Production could even be at the Rolls Royce Goodwood plant as it already has capacity to build another car. Using a highly developed version of the latest M5 & M6 V10 5.0 litre 500Bhp engines, increased by another 50cc's could make the new V10 capable of developing 550Bhp. Using the latest lightweight materials including aluminum & carbon-fibre throughout weight could be kept to 1200 Kg & have the power to weight ratio of 458 Bhp per tonne. Burkhard Goschel the head of BMW's development is said to "offer the ultimate in lateral dynamics", & must be cable of out performing the V8-powered M3 & Z4M. It will use the latest electronic & mechanical aids to enhance it's road holding capabilities & wind tunnel development will ensure aerodynamic down force is a priority. Active spoilers & venturi underbody will ensure the cars sticks to the road like an F1 car. BMW hopes to keep the price within £90,000 price bracket& sales should start in 2008.

As far as I could tell from the german article, The car depicted is pure speculation. Although the M division has apparently stated that an M10 is under way, but BMW itself does not want to confirm anything.
The plan seems to be from BMW however, to release a whooping 15 new models over the next five years!

About the proposed M10, it was, as I understood it, meant to have a MR configuration, with a V10 powerplant with 550 PS, or possibly a turbocharged V8 with the same PS.
