Keen racer Bob Carnes built a series of sleek sports cars in Colorado in the late 1950's. They were dual purpose cars designed for road and track and available assembled or in kit form. Valuable publicity was gained when an XP5 finished second to a D Type Jaguar in the first televised Daytona race in 1960 - it also reached a speed of 175mph. Performance for 1959 was pretty astounding with road versions reaching 0-60mph in 6 seconds and over 100mph in a standing quarter. Power was provided by 283 cubic inch fuel injected Corvette motors with a four speed T10 transmission. Brakes were Buick Alfin drums and rear axle was a narrowed Positraction Corvette item.
Up to 18 of these cars were built, of which around half remain. Some Bocars were race only models and some, namely the "Stilleto" design were quite strange to modern eyes. I selected the XP5 to feature as it seems to be one of Bocars most successful models and had beautiful lines.
