Bone Stock Drifting

I'm curious to see what some of the top level drifters around here can do with completely unmodified vehicles. Whatever tires, some established LSD setting (maybe just completely locked), but no modifications to the car itself at all.

Show everyone how important or unimportant setups are :)

I'm not an amazing drifter, I'm out of practice these days and have mainly been sticking with very mild setups in order to get back to working on my fundamentals. I'm curious about the actual limitations of, say, a stock S13.

Is there anyway to post the Replay data to youtube or something? Otherwise i can only post pics. either way drifting with completely stock cars is not impossible, its just really hard to link drifts and hold them for really long.

Is using a Buick Special '62 cheating?

The Buick Special isn't what I would call a stock car. I didn't mean just un-upgraded, but also no pre-tuned cars.

I definitely know drifting stock is very possible, I'm just curious to see how much more a drift specific tune allows some of out best drifters to do. Whether it's actually expanding the capabilities of the car or simply making the car more comfortable and predictable for the specific driver.

i dont have any videos of me drifting stock cars but it is usually how i decide which cars i will set up anyways. i take them out in stock form and if it fits my drift style then i go ahead and max it out. most time i will remove most of the mods (which can come off) to drift online. alot of cars straight out the box can drift but like full_throttle said it is just more difficult to link every corner. I would not drift a car online without suspension and lsd mods. but hey its just me :D

As a general rule, the more powerful the car is, the easier it is to drift stock. S13's are tricky when it comes to linking corners, you're pretty good through second, but in order to drift in 3rd you have to be prettey commited. Another 50 hp will really go a long way. Stock FD RX7's, and 350Zs drift pretty well i've found. The supra RZ (Mk4) is also a pretty good stock drifter.

Of course all of the above assumes comfort hard tires.

All you really need to do is add comfort hard tyres and change up the brake setup, I can drift Anything with RWD! maybe not particularly link all the drifts but its not very hard mate :D

I love drifting stock cars as it more of a challenge. The rx7 is good to drift stock as well as a couple of muscle cars. I can usually link the drifts well but 3rd just kills the power and basically, drift over.

I agree.. I rarely modify any of my drift cars, other than Comfort Hard tires. Stock suspension, stock LSD, stock transmission, etc etc.. occasionally I'll add an exhaust for different sound, but usually not required.

In fact, the only drift car I have that I have modified extensively is my blue Challenger SRT8 that represents my real 2010 SRT8 6-speed that's modified.

I will say that if you want to drift a Mustang GT at higher speeds, a transmission swap is a must -- 4th gear is such a turd in that car, hahaha
