Photos of the 2009 Renault Megane III hatchback have leaked out thanks to km77.com, which has released a treasure trove of press shots of the car. Compared to the current generation car, the new Megane has more traditional proportions and a nose inspired by the Renault Laguna Coupe. Though it still looks a little French, the sedan has a less-dramatic profile that is more reminiscent of the Mazda3 and Fiat Bravo.

No details have been released about engine choices but it is expected that they will not deviate too far from the current lineup and are likely add some "greener" options. Overall, it's a sharp looking sedan though it seems to have lost a bit of the French whimsy that makes the current generation so lovable.

You can see a full gallery of the car HERE

I like it, I think, but I can definitely see the resemblance to the Mazda3. While I do prefer the look of the current car to a greater extent, I'd say this is a good progression based on the Laguna, and I'm sure it will grow on me. Eventually...

Interesting styling, to say the least. But I like what I see here for the most part. It offers that visual sense of space while appearing nicely balanced too.

I think it's alright. I do like the current one a bit more though. It seems more agressive. I will wait until the more "special" version of this one comes out for my final judgement, but so far it looks ok.

Ooh, it's nicer than I was expecting. It's not as interesting as the outgoing model though, which is a shame. It seems to me that Renault are trying to move the cross-range design scheme away from 'Funky' and into 'Classy'. I mean even the Megane facelift saw the introduction of more upmarket design bits and bobs (which I personally don't think suited it at all). And the facelift to the Modus did the same thing. This doesn't look half bad though. Not sure if I'm keen on the front, though...

I don't really see much of the Mazda3 in the car except the roof line. And the fenders are a little Mazda-esque, but nothing really to worry about. I think it's a good looking car though. I wonder if we'll see it here as a Nissan, maybe the next Versa (if the Megane is what the Versa is based on.)

And where are the sedan pics they were commenting about?

Not bad. Doesn't look too dissimilar to the Megane Coupe Concept they showed at the Motor Show. Obviously not as pretty, but has the lines and some of the features basically right.

The bonnet to windscreen section is very Seat Leon.

It looks way better then the old Megane, which is a great thing.

Wonder if it will still be difficult to change the front light bulbs...hehe:dopey:

Those who watched 5thgear will know...

I really like how Renault always redesigns the Megane to look completely different from the previous model. It shows a lot of faith in their styling team, and I respect that.

Yeah I also saw that..... bloody madness, its the same with my Corsa, You can't change the bulbs yourself, apparently the bumper needs to be removed to do it and that in turn means you have to remove the wheels! :scared:

The car in the pic has HIDs, so I doubt you would have to change the bulbs yourself. With those gizmos, it's usually better to let the dealer fix it anyway.

Amazingly similar to the 2010 Mazda3 concept, but still, beautiful nonetheless.

Wow that looks good! I'm very impressed. I'm guess we still aren't getting Renaults in the states are we?

Only if God comes down and speaks to Goshn and tells him too. I don't have enough faith for that anymore...

I guess I'll be the first...*deep breath*

That front end looks hideous. The rest is fine, but that nose has so much going on, none of it looking good in my opinion.

*slow clapping* Well done to Renault for going from an interesting (if not to everyones taste) design to an incredibly dull and generic looking one.

Apart from the bonnet/hood detailing, you could replace the Renault badge with a Kia, Toyota, Mazda or any Chinese manufacturer and you'd be none the wiser.

How much better would the front end be if the Renault badge was about three inches further down the bonnet? It looks all "snouty" when simply moving the badge would make it look agressive.

+1 The front looks like it has been sat on in the middle but the rest is fine, I do like the rear.
