Bonnet Cam vs. Roof Cam

First of all, I searched other threads but could not find any similar topics. If such a tread does exist, sorry.

I like bonnet views in other games and always regretted that PD implemented roof cams rather than bonnet cams which have a lower viewpoint. I love how bonnet cams give a strong perception of speed while letting you feel connected to your car. The roof cam makes other cars too small in my view.

However, I did find two cars with bonnet cams in this car, namely the High End Performance Nissan G37 and the Gran Touring Garage 1970 Ford Mustang Trans-Cammer. The G37 has a lovely wide carbon-look bonnet to admire while driving.

My question is, was there ever information by PD issued why these cams differ with these cars? Has any reason been given as this (welcome) inconsistancy puzzles me.

There are a few other ones as well. Suzuki Alto Lapin Turbo, Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 V-Spec II and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X.

Don't know why those ones have a proper hood view either, but I agree that I like driving them for that reason.

i have the same question.

I really miss a good hood view. The roof cam is to high and depending on car some roofcams are place on the back of the roof. This results you have a big stupid antenna on your screen or you don't see the front of your car at all.

Why can't they make a hood view like the RE Amemiya aspadrink, and the G37.
I also want a rear mirror on the top of my screen like you have on the bumper view. is it so hard to create that view...?

I disagree. Hood cam is too low. It's like your chin is on the hood. I love roof cam.

I wish Kaz would have the camera ppositions adjustable, so everyone can be happy.

premium jag XKR has a great hood cam. beast to drive too!

the Evo has a roof view...

Are you sure? I could have sworn it is level with the base of the windshield.

the premium car? a Evo is my favorite car, but i didn't like to drive becaus of the view. so i am sure unless they changed the view.

Thanks for the info. 👍 I will try the cars mentioned and if I find others post them here.
Still keep wondering why PD decided to do it like this.

Ok i decided to drive whit the evo know and they really have changed the roofcam view, its still a roofcam, but its a much better roofcam now.
gonna drive the ferrari italia and the masarati know, i hope they changed them too.

By the way do you guys also see the tracksurface too when driving whit the roofcam of the evo. i letterly can see through my car (were the whipers are).

I noticed that with another car as well, very weird.

I'm still checking my garage for low hood/bonnet cams. If I have found more I'll post it here for those who also love cars with that cam position.

I think the Mercedes SLR McLaren Premium one also has a hood view :)

I also prefer a bonnetcam to roof or bumper.

Most of all however id wish we where able to remove the steeringwheel and armanimation from the cockpitview.

The lack of an appropriate view is one of my few remaining dislikes in GT. Many people think that cockpit is the most realistic but I disagree. When you are driving, the dash and steering wheel and everything in the cockpit is in your peripheral vision and you are focussed on the road in front of you. The road takes up most of your view. The closest GT comes to this is the zoomed in cockpit view. However in real life, the sides of your car are in your peripheral view and you can focus on any of your mirrors with a flick of your eyes. You absolutely can't do this in the zoomed cockpit view. Even in the wide cockpit view you have restricted viewing of your mirrors. Really there is no way that you can simulate a proper cockpit view with just one monitor so everyone is going to have their preference to what they like best. What I would like is a view with the camera in a similar vertical position to bumper or cockpit, either a bonnet or small dash to think you are in the car, AND the fake mirror from bumper cam to recreate the same access to mirrors you would have in a real car.

Unless you're very short or like driving in a steeply reclined position, interior view is also too low. The horizon should be higher, closer to the rear view mirror. Anyone who has taken art or photography class with understand that the horizon is the same level as your eyes. And yes, it's too far back too, it looks almost like you're driving from the back seat.

Once again, adjustable views, and EVERYONE wins. Yes no? :sly:

That is one impressive hood. 👍

Tempting to complety chrome that car when the DLC comes out with the paint pack.

There is no hood cams in the game... and you can test it quite easy... put in bumper cam and compare to cockpit cam and you will see that the view is at the same hight... now for there to be a hood cam it would have to be in a lower hight... but it is not... it is just a very low car or high hood and low roof cam... because if you compare the view of the so called hood cam with cockpit or so called bumper cam you will see that it is higher

Also the RX7 lm car has a decent hood view. You can tell it's a hood because of the crazy louvers that are not on the roof.

You're right they are not technically hood cams but for a lack of a better name. Lower roof cam may be a better term. Or any name that describes the position where the cam is lowered to show a larger hood to enjoy.
