I suggest a book forum be created. or a forum where books and other read media can be discussed. magazines, etc. there are so many good motorspoorts books and mags out there. and I for one would like to discuss just plain books, that dont have anything to do with cars or racing.

if there is already a forum where this topic is regularly discussed, im sorry for not seeing it. i would also like to say that it isnt the same as having a "music" forum, or "movies and tv".

thanks.

are you retarded? if you are not interested in this subject than dont post in the newly created forum. but for those of us that want it..........

in the rumble strip there is tons of other garbage. i wouldnt want to post about books there. i would like a books forum so that the type of people i want to read my threads, could.

music is media. movies are media. books and mags are media...........

I'd go for it, but only if it didn't exclude automotive books.
Ditto.
Most of what I read has nothing to do with cars, even though I am a "car guy".
The closest I would cop to, is reading Clive Cussler, who always has his hero driving some very cool vintage car.

I don't see many threads on this topic. But maybe a forum about this may be one of the most popular forums. ;)

i really disagree. we must admit the type of person that watches shltty movies, and listens to shltty music is different than the type of person that enjoys a good book.

I guess i am saying the music and tv forums already have tons of posts everyday. combining them along with a book forum wouldnt provide for a good place to duscuss books, or for that matter movies or music. If i want to read thrads about books, i dont want to filter through garbage to find them. and the people that want to read threads about garbage dont want to filter through threads about boks.

I like that idea...I read quite a few books, and it's a similar subject to Movies, Fitness, etc. :)

thanks. what do you read mainly? we can start a discussion in this thread for now. i am currently reading "ishmael" by daniel quinn

I'll support this idea heartily. However, if it includes any reference to Harry "plagiarised beyond a joke" P****r, I'll be round with a large fireaxe and 12 lbs of napalm... :D

I actually, mostly enjoyed the 5th "Potter" book.
Bring the Fire Axe on 'round."
I prefer a good murder mystery. My favorite authors in this genre are James Patterson, and Stuart Woods.
But Robert Parker with the "Spenser" books, is also right up there.
If i'm having a good month I read about 4-5 books.
That depends on if I find good books.
I have a source here in Leavenworth that has Paperbacks for a dollar and hardbacks for five.

I'll help you. I hate Harry Pothead. :grumpy:

Recently, I read Harry Potter also...:p

I'm reading Lord of the Rings again, very slowly...:D

I read the first 4 as well - I had to know my enemy.

They were on the whole very derived, with weak, telegraphed plotlines. Some might say they're "alright for kids", but that's overly condescending IMO. I'd read Lord of the Rings twice before I was 11 (I'd attempted The Silmarrilion, but that's not an easy read :D).

Having read the books, my suspiscions were confirmed. Large portions of the books were lifted from Terry Pratchett's Discworld ("The Mended Kettle"... very subtle), Lord of the Rings and, worst of all, Ursula Le Guin's "The Wizard Of Earthsea" books.

I can see where there may be an appeal - even a gateway to reading better books - but the fact that this woman has got so amazingly rich based on pure plagiarism sickens me.

Harry Potter is a loser, i hate him, even though i have books 2,3,and 4 (i got em for free from a dude who was going to throw them out, along with a computer, with win98 for free) and i read the 1st book, and some of the 2nd but they lost my interest quickly, there just not for me and yet they still captivate all of the little kids (7th grade and under is little to me) around me, and i live around a lot of little kids which is very annoying

Fine.

I don't think we need a book forum, because the demand is not enough. Get a little bit of conversation going in the rumble strip - and if it seems a popular subject, Jordan might consider it.

Historically speaking, a specific forum is created because there is a need for it, not just a want for the need for it.

How many threads have you seen about books at GTP? Honestly, in the last two years here, this is the first thread about books that I can recall ever seeing.

How about you? How many book threads have you found at GTP?

I take that back, I have actually seen a couple of book threads in the day, Harry Potter being one of them.

I can see some potential for a forum like this. I'm going to think about it a bit.

thanks jordan. and remember, any read media can be included, magazines too. i think a lot of people would be interested in discussing different car mags.

pako, I think that if people saw a book forum, it would pop into their mind "hey, i have something to discuss on that subject". having no real place, well yea, the rumble strip, doesnt bring much attention to a possible subject of interest. it is difficult to show that there is a bigt enough interest, because, I think, not many people have ever looked in the rumble strip. I have never entered it once, and i have been a member here for a year and a half. but, we'll see. I will see what i can stir up in there soon.

thanks for the attention.

Nice idea.

A book forum has a lot more potential than the unused sports forums. Just look at the hockey forum, there hasn't been any posting there in ages.
