I can drive V-10 & V-12 powered sports cars... but put me behind the wheel of a 2.0 litre Focus and I'm fcked.

I hate front wheel drive cars.

Just nitpicking.

Okay, it doesn't matter if I was driving an MR, a snowmobile, a donkey, or a spaceship. No matter what you were in you were going into the snow. The road was good enough to play ice hockey on. By the looks of the snowbank I was probably around the 4rth or 5th person to go spinning into it.

I think the Lancer is better than the Focus and Civic in their class. That may just be my lancer thats sitting in my garage talking though. :-p

The Civic and Focus, though not best-in-class are certainly better than any non-turbo 2.0L Lancer.

I beg to differ.

Lancer 120hp 130lb-ft
Civic 115hp 110lb-ft
Focus 110hp 125lb-ft
Sentra 126hp 129lb-ft
Corolla 125hp 126lb-ft
Cavalier 115hp 130lb-ft
Neon 132hp 130lb-ft
protege 122hp 120lb-ft
mirage 113hp 116lb-ft
saturn 124hp 122lb-ft
Golf/jetta 115hp 122lb-ft

These are all 2002 model Sedans I felt like posting. But as you can see the Lancer is actually quit good.

Edit: I got all of these stats from http://www.consumerguide.com/index.cfm?o=head

Edit2: I added some more cars in their class.

I like how you picked the wussiest engine for the Focus to base comparison to.

Based purely on horsepower? Here's an actual comparison.

Nissan Sentra 2.5S - my favourite small sedan - vs. the Mitsubishi Lancer LS.

Price: $16100 for the Lancer to $16700 for the Sentra. Lancer by the $600.
Power: 120bhp/130lb-ft for the Lancer to 165bhp/175lb-ft for the Sentra. Sentra by 45bhp and 45lb-ft.
Spec:
------------------------------Sentra--------Lancer
Front side air bags-------Standard--------$800
Antilock brakes------------Standard--------$800
Inside trunk release------Standard-----Not offered
Remote trunk release----Standard------Not offered
Remote gas cap release-Standard------Not offered
Wheels-----------------------15" alloy-------14" alloy
Leather-wrapped wheel--Standard-----Not offered
Trip computer--------------Standard-------Not offered
Alarm-------------------------Standard------Not offered
Power sunroof----------------$700------------$750
(Sentra includes illuminated visor mirrors, not offered on Lancer)
Rear spoiler-------------------$360---------Not offered

I was going to try and be impartial, but for all of this I couldn't find a single thing the Lancer LS had that the Sentra didn't.
Acceleration: Sentra 2.5S does 0-60 in 8.2 seconds; Lancer LS does 0-60 in 9.4 seconds. Both vehicles offer only an automatic transmission. Advantage Sentra. Again.
Fuel economy: 27.5 with Lancer; 25.5 with Sentra.
Interior volume:
-------------Front head----Front leg---Rear head--Rear leg
Lancer--------38.8----------43.2---------36.7--------36.6
Sentra--------39.9----------41.6---------37.0--------33.7
A tie in number of categories, 38.1" average in Sentra to 38.8" average in Lancer, 155.3" total in Lancer; 152.4" total in Sentra. Advantage Lancer.

So there you have it. Lancer gets 2.5 more mpg, has 0.7" more average interior room, and costs $600 less. Sentra has 45bhp more, 45lb-ft more, offers more options and for a cheaper price, includes more standard equipment, and does 0-60 1.2 seconds faster. I personally can't fathom a way that the Sentra isn't worth $600 more - hell, I'd pay $1500 more for it.

Rumple, I picked all the base modelsfor my comparison because you have a 4d SE and thats the engine for the SE, unless you have the optional engine which had 130hp and 135lb-ft, in which case I apologize for not noticeing.

M5Power, see that isnt a comparison because you are putting the Sentra's biggest egine up againt a 2liter engine lancer. So the Lancer has no way of preforming better. Ye, I was just talking about performance, not options. Although I say that most of the option that the sentra you showed had, I personally would not car for besides the alarm, but thats just my personal preference.

$550 a month to insure the ****ing crap box!

How can they get away with charging that much for a damn ugly Ford?!

I even got quoted at one place for $14,000 a year.

Insurance companies are down right evil.

How much is that in USD? Either way it's ****ing ridiculous for a god damn Focus. Are you on your Dad's insurance policy? I only pay $120(full coverage, and whatever the **** else) a month for my Cobra through USAA, and I'm only 18, but I'm on his policy still.

BTW- What happened to it when you crashed it?

In the car world, a pretty simple rule for value is that $100 buys 1bhp. Therefore, the Sentra's 45bhp difference should represent an increase of $4500, yet it's just $600. The only way the Lancer would be better is if it was loaded with spec to counteract that $600 price difference, yet... it's the Sentra that has the more spec.

And because these two vehicles are seperated by just $600, using the "Lancer has no way of performing better" defence is really my point - the Lancer simply doesn't match up against the best vehicles in class.

Although I say that most of the option that the sentra you showed had, I personally would not car for besides the alarm, but thats just my personal preference.

Oh yes - the "I don't want that option" defence. One of my favourties.

But Doug, you can say you own a Lancer. Just as long as no one sees it, they may believe you own an Evolution.

Awesomes.

Defence? Favourites?

In American I dunno.. prolly 300 something. It is under my own name.

When I crashed it I took out one headlight and messedthe bumper up. Nothing too bad.

But there is a problem with the shift linkage and my clutch is pooched. No biggy though, I will have it fixed up in no time flat.

that was some snow bank :p
