Hello guys,

Forgive my seemingly noobish question, but...
I have tried to search the forums to find an answer, and I have had no luck. (perhaps my searching skills are lacking?)

Anyhow, after spending some time tuning my FF car (400pp), It has started to bounce around corners now. The handling seems alright and there is little understeer, but now a bounce keeps happening. I can only assume it has something to do with my Dampers.

Any insights you could give me into this strange behavior would be welcomed.

Many thanks, if you need further info please ask and I will do my best to provide it.

Try loosening the rebound a notch up front, can also try dropping the sway bars down a notch each. Don't take my word for it though.

actually, I have plenty of spare time now to mess around. What car/tune?

Nothing special, but I'm going through a low pp phase at the moment. :)

Hope that helps and let me know if you find a solution. Oh, for a greater effect, run the car on Tsukuba, that seems to bring out the issue more.

alright. I don't have that car to fully test it out. though I picked up a celica 2000gt-r and modded it similar. They should be pretty close in wheelbase, the celica just slightly shorter.

I tried out your tune, weight about the same with max balast in the rear, got a bit of the hop you're talking about. Though you have the car tuned very stiff.

Tried the following (please don't ruin your tune on account of my experiments, use a different setting sheet if available)

spring rate - front 9.2 rear 10.7
extention - front 4 rear 5
compression - front 5 rear 5
roll bars - front 3 rear 4
everything else the same. This gave me about 1.5 seconds faster, though I have to admit I didn't give both a hard run on tsukuba.

I dropped 100kg off of the car and adjusted the hp to match, 400pp, .5 faster yet.

Hope that helps

Thank you for testing it out, even though it was a Celica. :)

I'll try a few changes to mine (on setup 'b') Hopefully, I'll be able to tweak it a little better and get rid of the hopping too. I'll try removing the ballast too at some point, although I read somewhere its best to try to get a 50/50 weight dist when learning to tune. Thanks again for taking time out. I owe you one.

No problem, let us know how it turns out. 50/50 balance is great for mid corner balance. If you have that, it's a lot easier to tune out issues. Though lighter cars can usually edge out a bit quicker a time. Mind you thats not always the case. Ive definitely had a few cases where the balanced car just handles better. You really wouldn't see much difference so far as straight line acceleration as gt is pretty good at balancing weight vs. Hp.

50/50 is great, but at such a low PP I dont think it matters too much but you are on a harder compound then RS tires. With that said I run my NSX with no aero at 45/55 (Stock), at 500, 505 and 550PP (Only makes 549PP though). I do have a few preludes but not sure offhand if its a '96 or '98. I would go for as close to 50/50 as you can. Then add some more weight to get more HP. Run some laps and see the difference if any at all. As for the bouncing I think I have noticed it in my CSL (550PP) do this on corners that have a crest. Its like the front gets grip, loses grip, gets grip and does this throughout the turn. Unfortunatly I havent figured out how to fix this but my CSL is fast and I just work with the bounce. But in a FWD car, not sure if it'd be that easy, plus I tend to stay away from FWD drivetrains.

All very useful tips there. :)
Deffo going to try adding some more weight and HP to the Prelude, but remain in the 400pp range. See what it does to my times.
And yeah, the bouncing is weird, a little annoyying, but it doesn't seem to affect the car's speed too much. (not that I have notice).
