hi i was just wondering, how t properly use the brakes. at daytona road course and on the lotus top gear test track challenge, i always seem to drift or have my back wheels spin out on the first turn at daytona road course and at the first turn at the top gear track. How much pressure should i use on the brake pedal (or trigger on the ds3 ;))? Should i start breaking on the straight at daytona or start when im already turning? Also, what brake balance should i use in a maserati at daytona? thanks for all responses :)

Brake balance is more important when you're driving without ABS, as the ABS system will prevent lock up.

The general rule is that you want more braking force in the front than in the rear, because as you brake, the weight of the car shifts forward and places the front wheels under greater pressure (meaning that it takes more force to lock up the front than the rear). The amounts and exact balance depends on which car you're driving, what tyres you're using and your preferred style of driving. A moderate starting point could be 3 front, 1 rear and then you can experiment from there.

As for Daytona and Top Gear Test Track, it would seem to me like you're entering the corners too fast.

I'm not sure but I think that LSD also affects braking, though it depends on the settings you set it to.

I turn in just slightly, then brake 100%, then ease off the pedal as I add more steering. You want the rear to rotate slightly on entry.

ok thanks for the advice. What i did at daytona road course yesterday that worked well was start breaking 100% in the straight, then as i turn in, reduce the braking a little. Kind of similar to what you said :)

That is the most effective way. When possible, you always want to get most of your braking done in a straight line, then easing off the closer you get to the apex so that you can start getting back on the gas as early as possible. Keep practicing just what you are doing, and remember to keep the car as stable as possible. If you are sliding or your wheels are spinning, you're losing speed. You gain speed by being smooth on your inputs and keeping the car stable at all times. Keep practicing. 👍

You want to break in a straight line, but not on the straight. Start heading to turn 1, brake 100% in a straight line, then ease off the brake as you start towards the apex.

Correct. Maybe I just worded it wrong, but that's what I meant.

Nope, pretty much what I said above. "When possible, you always want to get most of your braking done in a straight line"

I understand what you meant, but the OP commented that he was not only braking 100% in a straight line, but also in the straight.

Ahh, the subtleties of the English language...

Ah, alright. Then hang me at sundown for not paying attention to subtleties. :nervous:

Im feeling the same as the two above me. It was about brake balance and braking technique and then all of a sudden clutch comes in at the poll..? Hmm..

For Daytona, you can see it here :

Dodge Viper GTS '02 at Road Course Daytona, 2:10.372

Do you use DS3 or wheel ? I suggest to start low at 3/1 or 5/3 BB.

ok i see what you mean. thanks :)
