Hi all,

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I purchased a Fanatec CSR wheel and out of the box, the thumbstick is CRAZY loose. Its pretty much resting on the down direction (it takes very little effort to register a 'down' press on the dpad) and when in use, it flops around all over the place. I read in the reviews that the thumbstick is a little low in quality, but I didn't quite expect it to be this bad.

If this is 'just how it is', are there any DIY fixes I can try to tighten it up a bit? It would be a pain to have to send the whole wheel back to Fanatec and wait for another one to come (especially with pCars arriving on Thursday, which is pretty much the reason I bought the wheel, so I can play it on PS4).

Any help or input would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

Sounds like a manufacturer defect. I'd reach out to Fanatec.

Mine does that too. When the motors kick-in the thumbstick starts to wooble like crazy.
I´m pretty sure it is normal as long it is working.

Mine did that too, it's normal for it to be, uh, 'limp'.

Honestly, I was waiting for someone to make that joke. Haha.

Yeah, like I said, from the reviews I read, they did say that the stick was a little crappy, but yeah, I didn't expect it to be quite this bad. It is working at this point, but it only takes a slight push to register a direction, especially 'down' (because of gravity) but my concern is that it will just crap out all together eventually. Also, if its how they usually come, it'd be a waste of time sending back to Fanatec if the next one I get is going to be pretty much the same. I might just live with it I guess. With my luck recently, it'll fail all together the day after its out of warranty :-S

Mine is going to make four years this month. The joystick is completely fine and everything is working properly. Assuming you don´t throw rocks at it :dopey:, it is gonna last.

Just out of curiosity, was your stick/dpad tight when you first got it?

The only reason I worry is that my original Clubsport Pedals failed after only about 2 years, and in those 2 years, they didn't get particularly thrashed. I really like the Fanatec stuff, but I just worry about Fanatec reliability after that happened.

It was already 'limp' out of the box. Very stupid design decision.

Ahhh, ok. Thanks for clarifying. That makes me feel a bit better I guess that it should go the distance. I was thinking of sticking some rubber, or something similar, to the underneath of the 'hole' that the stick sits in to sort of 'support' the thumbstick up a bit. It would need to be something with a little give so you could push 'down', but something like that may just work...

So, update on this. Out of curiosity, I emailed Fanatec and sent them a video of the thumbstick in question. I did this more to see if they'd say 'Well, thats pretty normal' or whether they'd say its a defect. I asked (and was hoping) they'd provide me an at home solution as opposed to having to send the whole wheel back.

They emailed me back and said the it looks like its defective :( Pretty bummed. I have to send it back before they send a replacement sadly, so looks like I'll be without a wheel for probably at least a week, which is a real bum out, especially with pCars coming tomorrow here in Aus. I might just have the weekend with pCars and send it back early next week.

Bit of an annoying result, but at least they're offering a replacement and they've been pretty prompt with following up emails and whatnot.

Mine, like others was very loose out of the box. Out of curiosity, mind sharing the video just to compare.

Mine was not loose and I got it second hand. The switches underneath this and the Y, B, A, X are more of a concern, with one having failed by now.

The thumbstick was intentionally designed like that. I don't know why Fanatec chose to go with that design though. The push-click for "A" is pretty much useless, and on my CSR unexpected "A" presses happen from time to time. Aside from that and the looseness of the stick, it works still fine.

Odd, I have two CSR's and the thumbsticks on both are very tight. They don't move at all unless somebody pushes them in a direction...

I have one of the first CSR Elite steering wheels, and the D-pad on that is very loose and wobbly. It floats above the switches. I've never had any issues with functionality. I thought they were all like that.
