Breakdowns?

Hi, I'm eagerly awaiting GT4 and was wondering if there really was going to be breakdowns, engine failure etc. in it. I hope not, because I like driving the cars, not breaking down. If there is breakdowns included, could it be turned off for arcade mode?

Thanks
Paddy.

I'm pretty sure breakdowns have been confirmed by PD. But it would be a good idea for them to include it as an option, especially for arcade mode since if I race my friends, I don't want to lose to them due to my car failing on the last lap.

So we know it's in the game, but there will probably be an option to turn it off if you dont like it I'm guessing.

Yeah KY said he wanted to include parts that wear out over time, expect it to be like in SGT2002.

I beleive that would only be a pure simulation mode aspect of the game, it would not be feasable to include it in Arcade or Online play.

if there are breakdowns, is there a possibility of engine swaps???

I don't see how one relates to the other, but maybe there will be engine swaps. That would be a great addition. It can already be done with hybriding, so it wouldn't take much to add in the option to the game. Are there major licensing problems with this?

There could be licence problems, but all it would take is an extra options screen and some extra programming, nothing major.

I'd swear they had already said there's gonna be engine swaps, along with mechanical failures.

Not engine swaps.

I think certain lisencing issues prohibit PD from including breakdowns in the game (it would be about 5-10 times more realistic with them, but it would make some cars and their manufacturers look bad unless it was the same rate for each car; which is totally unrealistic...)

I would like breakdowns due to driver error in addition to rare random failures. If you run with no oil for hundreds of miles, I think the engine should seize up. (Of course they would have to let you change oil in mid-series, unlike GT3.) Also if you constantly over-rev I think the engine not last as long. If you set up the suspension poorly in a rally track, I would like to see it snap every once in a while.

This way it has little to do with a particular car and it requires you to have tuning skill. This would make it more realistic.

No I don't think theres a problem with a part called front left suspension failing, if they used the official brand name for each part then there would be a problem but if it's just called front left suspension where's the problem. The bodywork is a different matter as the shape of the panels are copyrighted alone.

Anyone know if highly tuned engines will be more prone to beaking down than stock motors?

If they do include realistic reliability, I hope they don't put in the BAR Honda F1 car as a bonus car, it'll go about a quarter mile then the engine will catch fire

Well, we would assume and engine producing more power will wear quckier.

There will be "failures" according to an article I have with KY. But what exactly will fail is still up in the air.

He did say, however, the battery will fail, and would require you to pit to have it replaced. He also mentioned the chassis will have parts that fail, and would need replacing, but I don't think that will happen during a race.

According to reports from web sites, the drivetrain will have parts that fail within it. Parts like the clutch, I imagine.
