I've seen a few threads about this, but none answered the question I was directly looking for. When a stock car is ready for it's first oil change other than the freebie few hp when you first buy it, is that how you get max hp? Or do you wait till the light comes on?

You need to break in the engine by driving around 180 miles, then change the oil. That will give you the maximum power.

Drive the car for 200 miles about to break the car in. Then change the oil after the 200 miles for max horsepower.

EDIT: Tree'd

My car is at 155 now and the oil change option is available, if I wait will that increase is what I was asking, worded it poorly.

If you do the change after 180-200 miles then you will get more power than doing it now.

Thank you for the speedy reply, I'll wait it out

1. Change the oil.
2. Drive it until the hp drops (around 124 miles) and then change the oil again so it makes the process faster.
3. Once you reach 186 miles change the oil again and you will be at max hp.

This is the way I break-in all of my Nascars and they reach a maximum hp of 892.

I got my NASCAR to the same power level this way (which is arguably easier):

1. Buy car
2. Oil Change immediately
3. Start laguna seca 200 miles endurance race in B Spec before you go out or something (takes 2.5-3hrs depending on car)
4. Oil change again
5. Your car is fully broken in!

This is probably the easiest way to do it, unless you want to drive the ~185 miles it takes yourself
