Breaking in?

So I've been reading through threads and looking for online rooms in GT5 and always saw "breaking in". Can someone please explain what it means?

"Breaking in" is driving a car enough to attain it's full horsepower and torque by breaking in the engine. This is generally achieved at about 200 miles of driving.

The first quote sounds like the procedure for a used car, but I thought they were already broken in...?

Yes used cars are broke in already so you only need to change oil or rebuild engine.. Unless they are over 5000 miles then you have permanent power loss.. You can change the oil immediately on a brand new premium car for some horsepower gain.

No you get the same amount. Just save 250 credits thats all, and the little bit of extra power to get the "break in" over with.

its funny how much you guys are overthinking it. just change the oil when you buy it, and change the oil after you have been driving for a while. the first oil change isnt really neccesary but you are faster with it.

Nobody's over thinking it. Yeah it might be overdoing it for most cars and races, but there are races and cars for which every hp counts and knowing when to change the oil is important.

Not overthinking. Run a Spec race with only an initial oil change and see how your lap times compare to someone in a fully broken in car. HP matters.

Over thinking? I click a few buttons and wa-la a broke in car after a oil change.
Saves me hours of driving around SSRX. Im just giving useful advice that you kinda repeated...

More useful advice. Buy SSRX> Dirve 185 miles. (Ive heard 182 but I run 185. I dont care what anyone says 185 is enough...)
Note a car that runs 185+ can do it in about an hour.>
Use R3 down for gas> put a rubber band on it to stay down> Run a 1 make race and set fuel on> set for 10 laps and drive in a circle for an hour+

When the gt5 files were originally decrypted it was shown that most cars are broken in at roughly 300km... or the same distance as the first endurance race. If you are that far in B-spec you can have Bob do the race for a couple hours, or even do it yourself. Unless you are in a really slow car it shouldn't take more than 2.5-2.75hrs. I did it in a stock viper srt8 in 2hrs and 15mins. And that was playing around on bald tires for the last 5-10 laps
