You do realise there is no point to this anymore? He's WON. We leave 31/1/20.
There is no point in facts and the fact we’ve wasted millions and millions to make ourselves poorer?

Sorry, to me reality is important. It’s never to late. Even after we’ve left I’ll still link news and facts to how idiotic this whole thing is. I’ll still talk to people and quiz them on why they voted to leave and how it’s benefited anyone... I’ll never give up on trying to keep and regain my freedoms that others are trying to take away from me based on lies and xenophobia.

Also, @Tired Tyres remind me, how many leave dates have we had and ignored? I’m curious... though maybe that dosn't matter either?

Remind me... Was there a massive Conservative MP advantage then?

...oh damn you got-me... :odd:

I guess non of this matters though, the NHS can be bankrupted, food-banks can be over-run, we'll have less say in our trade agreements and less power internationally... just what we where promised and what the people voted on!

EU confirms there will be border checks inside UK under Brexit deal, contradicting Boris Johnson’s false claim
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-deal-border-check-boris-johnson-uk-eu-barnier-northern-ireland-goods-a9283686.html

tenor.gif

Barnier says “there will be checks on goods entering the island of Ireland” and Johnson says “there will be no checks on goods from NI to GB” (note those two comments do not contradict each other) and ‘that the only circumstance where there will need to be checks on goods from GB to NI [which is relevant to Barnier’s comment] is if the UK and EU fail to agree a zero-quota, zero-tariff trade deal’.

There is also the key words ‘additional’ and ‘extra’ to watch out for, since there are already checks between GB and NI, but without a trade deal between EU and UK those checks could well become onerous (which Johnson is trying to downplay/ignore). The idea that there never was or will be any checks on everything passing between NI and GB in either direction is false, but the key question is what any new checks will actually involve.

Why would the UK get to leave the trade union but still enjoy a zero tariff? I can't see why they think that's attainable.

Again! What's the point?

The point of checks at customs borders is to protect businesses inside the customs area. Always has been.

If it is mutually beneficial.

But therein lies the rub. Every EU member state will have a good reason to seek zero tariffs on UK trade on specific items, but the EU as a whole may not benefit because of the perception that EU membership is not required in order to benefit from tariff-free trade.

While this means that a zero-tariff trade deal between the EU and the UK is unlikely (or at least there will be a very limited number of things that have zero tariffs), tariffs on trade with the UK will hurt different member states differently, and this could (and almost certainly will) lead to a different risk to the EU in the shape of internal disagreements and rancour, which in the end could prove just as destructive, if not more so, than agreeing a trade deal with the UK that sets most tariffs to zero and keeps all member states happy.

We've been pummled with anti-EU headlines for decades (often lies), if you think you're not going years of headlines about how leaving is a bad idea, I think you'll probably be mistaken.

I meant the point of him posting stuff like this. It isn't going to make the 31st not happen.

Couple of points;

  1. This is a thread about Brexit, feel free to post positive brexit news for discussion.
  2. Where have I said that posting news and discussion points within this thread will somehow prevent something no one in this thread has the power to prevent?
  3. Why can't the discussion of something that is bad, be discussed regardless of if it was going to happen?
  4. Should talk and discussion about (for example) the governments passed motion to essentially catalogue everyone's fetish have been outlawed/banned?
I'm so confused as to why you think bringing these news points up is bad or a waste of time in Brexit thread... it wouldn't matter if Brexit had happened, I'd still be talking about and I'd still be mad about it. My freedoms are being taken away and my country is being made poorer and weaker. I'm not just going to sit by and accept it, I quite like this country and I quite like living here and I don't see why lying, rich ***** should be allowed to lie and cheat their way into ****ing this country over, for their own ends. And if you think I'm being hyperbolic, you only need to scroll up to the first link you cried about...

But yes... you are correct, I can't remove days from the calendar... thanks for pointing that out in-front of everyone.

I can't find the link, but there was an article on the FT (I think), outlining that basically all the major EU nation leaders are now fed-up of Brexit and want it over and done with.
I don't think the EU will give us the zero tariffs as you suggest but I also don't think this will lead to destructive in-fighting. I don't think we have much of an option regarding trade with the EU, we simply can't swap to trading with other nations/unions on anything like the scale we do with the EU due to almost nothing else but geography... and the EU will play this to their benefit. If(when) the UK economy crashes post-brexit that'd benefit the EU pretty massively. They'd have a nice clear and visible example of how powerful the EU is and how much its member states benefit from it.

Do you guys actually have a trustworthy news outlet, or did they all turn into sewer levels of poop?

My point was that zero tariffs on trade between EU and the UK is by far the best outcome economically for both sides, but the EU has to balance that with the political risk of maintaining tariff-free trade with an exiting member state. But IMHO, it is a low risk, high gain strategy for the EU. Ironically, Brexit is a high-risk, low gain strategy for the UK. The question is, why would the EU not agree to a zero-tariff trade deal if the benefits are high and the risk is (very) low? The opposite - a high-tariff deal or no trade deal at all - is a high risk, high loss strategy for the EU, so I reckon it is quite clear what the better option is. If it also benefits the UK too, then all the better - but the EU will decide on the basis on what works best for them, and that surely means a sensible trade deal.

Again! What's the point?
It's a thread about Brexit. What content do you think should be posted in here?

Also the government needs to be held to account for promises it made to the electorate so these sorts of stories are important in the wider context. It's OK to raise concerns and discuss matters of government surely?

It's about Mr one track pony specifically posting totally irrelevant things that appear to be designed to convince someone not to vote for Brexit. There is literally no point anymore.

It's about Mr one track pony specifically posting totally irrelevant things...
That directly relate to Brexit, in a Brexit thread?

...that appear to be designed to convince someone not to vote for Brexit.
What Brexit vote would that be?

...unless you think I think I can time travel, and take people with me?
...Do you think I think that I think I can time travel and take people I've managed to taint with facts in order to sway the 2-3%(ish) of the population who voted in favour of it in order to cancel Brexit in this new reality I've created?

That sounds like the only plausible reason you would have. Read your own posts. They are irrelevant. We are leaving. He has the majority to ensure it. It is over. There is no point anymore.

Although the campaign to ring Big Ben could be replaced by a fog horn... It seems more appropriate.

You've failed to explain why news stories about Brexit are irrelevant to Brexit, in a thread exclusivley about Brexit.
I don't think I can time travel

We are leaving.
Ok?

He has the majority to ensure it.
Ok?

It is over.
It's never over, even after it happens. Nothing is ever set FOREVER.

There is no point anymore.
No point in being against something that will make me poorer, restrict my freedoms and potentially ruin my country? Why.

Brexit Party MEP wonders who will represent the UK in EU meetings now.

Staggering. Utterly, utterly staggering.

It's not really.

The point is that the UK is now about to formally enter the 'transition period' (as per the Withdrawal Agreement) but this does leave the UK in the historically unique position of being subject to the full gamut of EU law while having no representation within the EU.

This is exactly why Johnson is intent on ending the transition period as quickly as possible, because it is an unusual and potentially precarious position for the UK to be in - it also is one reason why hard Brexiteers would have been happy with no transition period at all.

Of course, back on planet reality, no transition period would likely have come at a catastrophically high price, hence why even Johnson recognised the need for it, but that doesn't mean that it is entirely beneficial or indeed welcomed, particularly by the Eurosceptics who suspect that the EU may now take advantage of the situation.

Interestingly, this is exactly the situation that opponents of a 'Soft Brexit' (myself included) are warning about - a situation where the UK still obeys all EU law but has no control over what those laws are is potentially very damaging to the UK, hence why it is wise to avoid this outcome and, as is the case with the transition period, keep it to an absolute minimum.

And then, when we're finally free from this transition period... we'll be subject to all of the EU's whims and be forced into worse trade agreements

How brilliantly our country shines

The UK's own government and the owners of the fishing quotas within it have done far more damage than the EU ever have to UK fishing.

With around 80% of the UK's allocated fishing quotas sold to non-UK companies (and the UK is the own EU nation who have allowed this to happen) the damage to the UK industry was done by its own, and Brexit of any flavour is not going to change that at all.

https://www.express.co.uk/comment/c...rth-sea-bristol-channel-blue-passports-brexit

Its also absurdly ironic for the Brexit party to complain given that its own leader has chosen to attend 1 meeting of the 42 he could have attended on fisheries policy in the EU, despite him being a member of that committee!
