I don't think I would EVER consider a brand-new Ferrari. You are better off buying used, given the discount, and generally how little the cars are driven, it would be practically new.

While you are very very right, harrytuttle, there is a few problems with your view:
No American company in particular was mentioned. Now I know that might not have been the point you were going for, but saying "Mercedes V12" as in Pagani is better in many exotic car cliente than "American V8," if only because of the snob appeal about American cars.

Well, that is kind of the crux of the argument on which we've been arguing the same side of in very different ways....

Toronado
Europeans are not willing to pay Ferrari prices for things that are not Ferrari exotic.

Kind of how the muscle car market remains an "American phenomenon", for both the reasons you stated and the ones you implied. Most people go with what they know, and the "American supercar" is a muscle car aspiring to be an exotic, but ends up the half-breed that, instead of being loved by both parents, is generally rejected by both.

TVR
I agree with your general reasoning in your post but I just have to point out that whatever has lead you to this conclusion is missinformation, the factory is not closed becaseu they arn't making enough models, it's closed because they're moving into a new factory that will handle being able to build more cars per week.

I'm well aware that TVR is far from the brink of financial ruin. They actually weren't selling very many cars, though. If a company is doing well and simply moving its base of operations, then laying off more than 25% of the staff -- even temporarily -- isn't necessary. Things are tight at TVR, probably in the same way things are "tight" at GM. Neither will be going the way of MG, I'm sure, but neither are they the picture of perfect health.

They overproduced, because sales dropped due to people wqaiting for the Cerbera replacment next year. Because of over production they then had to produce far less cars, that's what led to the staff being layed off. Your right, they arn't in perfect health, but the factory closing down, and re-locating is something that has been planned since Smolenski bought the company and has nothing to do with a drop in production or the laying off of the staff.
