Alright you all know its a gay cowboy film. But any ways my fiancee drug me to this this afternoon and I must say I wasn't all the impressed. Now my opinion on gays is that they can do what they like, so I didn't dislike the movie from the point. But I just didn't think it was anything special, acting was decent, story line was decent, but honestly nothing besides man and man loving really stood out as different.

So my question is how the HELL did this win Gloden Globe Awards? Honest to God? Is our society so afraid of offending people they gave the award to the a gay movie (not gay as in bad, but gay as in man loving men). I mean its a decent enough movie but I can name better.

And once again, while I didn't like the whole idea of watching a gay sex scene, it didn't bother me...I'm actually surprised this wasn't done sooner.

awards are based more around release date and how umm 'surprising' it is. You can't get more 'surprising' than gay cowboys in love with eachother. Not when it comes out near the end of the year (ie, still in the memories of people)

I still think the best movie of the year was Walk the Line.

But awards shows are a joke, the good movies always get shunned and something surprising wins.

Awards shows seem to be more about “OMFG look at what she’s wearing!!!” than the movies themselves. I’d rather trust a few friends to point me to a good movie than one of these silly fashion exhibitions.

Well if man loving doesn't bother you then Broke Back Mountian should be ok, like I said it's a decent movie.

And even though Brokeback Mountain grabbed all kinds of awards, including best drama and best director, Heath Ledger got shafted.

Er, wait. That sounds wrong. You know what I mean.

Does anyone know if they eat pudding together during the movie?
The creaters of South Park must be laughing so hard, they have milk fountains shooting out of their noses.

My thoughts exactly... 👍

However, I thought it was a good film... Not great mind you, but good...

;)

Ya see what I mean, if you neglect the man loving, it's a decent regular old film...put man loving it in and you got a winner. So what has this taught us? Put a love affair between men or women in a movie and you got yourself a winner.

Its not even controversial IMO. We've already had "Queer As Folk" and "Gay Eye for the Straight Guy", so this is just the logical progression.

Besides, cowboys with the REALLY shiny big belt buckles were always a bit you-know-what.

It's only a controversial movie in the states, no one cares in Aus.

I bet there's a man lovin' big-rig drivin' movie next. About isolation out on the highway... loneliness of the job... driving through the night... lol.

To add to the mystery of a "large, scary-looking, male nurse, who happens to also be black"...I will take no crap about being a man in a "woman's profession" BTW.
I listen to country music. (Why be "normal"?)
The country stations, in particular the DJ's are having a hard time wrapping their minds around this whole "gay cowboy" thing.
I have no desire to see it.
But then it strikes me as a "chick flick" gone wrong.
My wife reads a large number of romance novels. I don't recall seeing a single one with a "man on man" theme.

I heard this redneck style comedian doing an interview on the radio to promote her upcoming show (Etta Mae I think was her name) and she said she went with her husband and once it became clear they were gay she heard every country boy redneck in the room say, "What the hell?" in unison.

 @ FoolKiller

But yes it has to be a chick flick, my financee enjoyed it for whatever reason...she says it was a touching love story and it was sad. I think I slept through that part of it that was supposed to be touching....well unless you count...err nevermind lets not go there.

But the funny thing is that I wear this black cowboy hat everywhere I go and I almost made the mistake of wearing it when we went to see this. I think I would have been owned if that happened.

It wasn't even the first homosexual cowboy movie... ever watch "Even Cowgirls get the Blues"?

It hasn't come to our market yet... and with our Board of Censors predominantly made up of sextagenerian Catholic nuns, it probably won't.

why werent there any gay cowboy movies made before this? Why is everyone acting so shocked when people have been making gay SAMURAI and also a few gay knight movies have been made. I havent gotten a chance to see the movie myself... Everyone's acting like its groundbreaking and just a great movie... So i guess i'll have to check it out.
I have a feeling its just that some people saw an opportunity to make money. I also have a feeling someone here's gonna prove that i dont know what the hell i'm talking about :D

......i think it just has :dopey:

As for gay cowboy films - what do you think 'Butch' Cassidy and the 'Sundance' Kid was?

Yet when you walk into a hairdresser's there it's full of gay men. They're good at their job though .

You wouldn't be on eof the many sex-tourists we get here, would you?

I meant cutting hair you know, in a hairdresser's, not that way...that's nasty....

I saw Brokeback last night. It was ok. Nothing special.

BUT! There were some killer lines. My friends and I were quoting our favorites to eachother all the way home.

When Jack tells off his father-in-law - that was AWESOME. Good lines in there.

And when Ennis's wife tells him she'll have more children if he'll support them. Man what a kick in the face.

Don't want to give away any more. Those are probably spoiler enough.
