I've always wanted to build my own race simulator, however, those things cost quite a bit of cash, something I'm a bit short of. Now I'm wondering, is there a good wheel for gt5 that wont empty out my pockets? I'm not really looking for G27 or T500 quality, just something a casual race fan can enjoy. Any suggestions at around $100 more or less ? What about second-hand ones? Are they worth it (finding and cost of replacement parts, etc.)? Thanks! :D

I have not tried one myself, but it seems that a Driving Force GT would be the minimum standard for a decent experience.

The DFGT is a decent choice. There is no clutch and there is no resistance to speak of on the brake but it is a good wheel and feels good when driving. I think when I bought mine it was about $129

I don't think i would go any lower than that though there are a couple of cheaper offerings out there.

.

Anything less than a DFGT isn't worth it.

I would also recommend staying away from a used DFGT; they are fragile and they do not have an unlimited lifespan.

What about one of these?

They cost around $20-25 so I don't really expect anyone of them to perform well but I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with them. Any comments?

But I guess I'll have to go for the DFGT.

I will just say you get what you pay for. Just save an extra month and get a DFGT for $100 and you will be extremely happy. I have two and a g27 and they are great for the money. Really you don't need anything else.

Mine hasn't been that fragile. It's had about four years continuous use and it's still going. But maybe it's an exception.

I'd buy a used DFGT over the cheapie chinese sub-$50 pieces of crap you see going around, but definitely a new DFGT is the way to go if you can in any way get the money together. It will be worth it.

That cdr king stuff wouldnt be worth anything :) just save and pick up a G27 or DFGT :) suprised to see a CDR King link here, also Pinoy here!

Wow, those wheels!
Anyway, why suggestion, pony up for the g27. They go for under 200 on amazon, and are that much better then the dfgt. Comes with a clutch, much better brakes, better steering feel, quieter, smoother, and has a large amount of aftermarket.

Maybe you're right, if I'm gonna spend money on a wheel, why not make it a good one. Plus I do prefer the H shifter over the sequential one.Though can you not use the clutch on that or do you really need to use it?

No, you don't have to use the clutch to shift. Since it had poor implementation in gt5 I tend no to use it, I usually race whatever the car comes with (watch to see how the driver shifts in cockpit). But never use the clutch.

DFGT is certainly worth the money. I'm a newbie building my own cockpit around the DFGT and a budget seat I found at Walmart online for $32.00 delivered. Pictures to follow. BTW my average lap times dropped by 2-3 seconds with the DFGT.

If you want a good budget wheel you really should buy the DFGT indeed.
It has a 900 degrees steeringangle, Force Feedback and great integration with GT5.
It isn't G27 quality but it's quite good.

I don't know why I havent thought to suggest this wheel before, but look at the logitech Momo wheel. I know it has gone through some updates since I got one back in 2007, and it lasted me until 2012. I upgraded and still have the wheel. Plan on building a sim kart rig for my daughter with it. its on par quality wise with the DFGT, however, the older ones are only 270* of rotation, and I'm sure the newer ones are too.
