Bugatti boss Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen has said that the company will replace the Veyron supercar around 2012 with another ultra high-end model. The confirmation confounds previous speculation that Bugatti would be wound-up when Veyron production comes to an end.

“We will be staying on top of everybody else and we will not be producing a smaller, or cheaper car and we will not be moving volumes up. Bugatti customers are very extreme people,” he told Autocar.

Paefgen said that Bugatti hasn’t finally decided on the new model. One high-level source told us that the company was considering a second model line possibly a luxury saloon to rival the Rolls-Royce Phantom. He also told us that advanced biofuel technology was being considered and even diesel.

The possibility of Bugatti sharing components with Bentley is also being discussed at a high level. If Bugatti was to give the go ahead to a saloon, the car would be likely to share a platform, and other major components, with the next Arnage, due in 2012.

Autocar has also learned Bugatti will build an even more extreme version of the Veyron as the end of the current model’s production cycle. Although it is still officially denied by the company, we understand that some customers have put deposits down on a more powerful 'GT' version.

According to Bugatti engineering boss, Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, it will be possible to get more power and torque from the 987bhp, quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder engine:

"We can go to 1106lb ft of torque and we currently have [922lb ft] - and with a turbocharged engine, engineers are always working on getting higher power." There has been speculation that the Veyron GT could top 1200bhp and be capable of 270mph.

Well its good to see that the Bugatti name wont disappear again... They know there are crazy people who will buy any car they produce so I guess its worth it (although its odd they would continue after loosing so much money!).

I can see this being a very Maybach Exelero'ish product!

This def. semi-confirms the suspicions that VAG does not have the will power to lose money on the Veyron & spend money for Bugatti to attempt at developing smaller, cheaper car.

You have to remember that a lot of the R&D they've done on the Veyron won't go to waste. They will be able to use thoes developments and adapt them to other cars than the Veyron.

im sure they are doing well to make back the money lost, the media attention and consumerist targets will keep it rolling in
wonder how much they will borrow from the EB218

Yeah after thinking about it all the expensive development has been done, like that crazy engine for example... they can now just bung it into anything and put a different top on it!

But seriously, there next car will cost substantially less to develop... plus I bet going to look very 'Gotham City!'

Hopefully. We'll see what the Porsche overlords do to inch the brand towards profitability, but even I wouldn't get my hopes up any time soon. There are only so many people who can buy one, and at least for me, I'd see far more money in going "cheaper" (say, $600,000?) instead of maintaining the same line.

Meh... What do I know?

I'd like to see them change their goals but I'm sure the final product will be interesting.
Profitability or not, I don't particularly care for cars like the Veyron, I'd much prefer any numbers of amazing cars before a Veyron and the over-the-top concept of the Veyron only makes that opinion stronger.

Approximately 810,000 (UK), ? (US)

120,000 (UK), 170,000 (US)

Just think of what you could do with the left-over cash (let's just say it's about 600,000 even though it's closer to 700k)... :trouble: :sly:

I'm sure you could buy a Saab with a higher top speed for only 250,000

Or better yet...
According to VBH you'll only need 170,000 (UK) to buy something like the F430 Challenge. I'm sure there are other deals of this sort with other manufacturers. 👍

Good luck getting a F430 or any other new Ferrari for that price. If you want to even get on the list to get a new Ferrari be expected to pay WAYYYY over the sticker price and wait months and months to get on the list to spec one out. Weve been talking about it over on FChat for a long time, and the Ferrari Dealers are just able to charge more due to the demand. Even the R8 has a waiting list about 2 years long, and I dont even remember how long the Veyron list is, but I remember hearing somewhere that for $400,000 they can bump up your production.

$1.4 million for the Veyron, Kent, US $. As Ben said, an extra $400K moves up a few notches. And yeah, the F430 is expensive, though there technically isn't a sign-up list anymore. As for FChat, yes, they've been commenting on that, but the bigger problems I read are the dealerships ripping off the clients, and giving them nothing in return for their used cars compared to the resale. A 2007 F430 can still go for more than the MSRP. Insane.

And it may have been better if Kent used a LP560-4 which starts at a $198,000 and isn't made any higher by the factory unless you start adding options.

But I see his point.

It might be that way in the US but over here you can still buy a 'used' 2008 F430, with under 1000 miles on the clock, fully loaded with all the expensive extras for about the same as retail. You just don't get the same dealer mark-ups here.

Isn't the market for this expensive a car getting a little saturated? Sure, there are lots of rich people who will buy really expensive cars and there always will be, but surely there can't be that many who can plunk down $1million+ for a car without thinking about it...

There only has to be a few hundred for it to be viable. There are 140 billionaires in the who could buy one with pocket change.
