By the end of the 1920's, both Jean and Ettore Bugatti were convinced that the now aging Type 35s needed more power. They were impressed by the performance of the Miller front wheel drive racing car and Jean wanted to get his hands on one to find out what made them so quick. In exchange for three Type 43 Bugattis, they got two Millers. The Bugattis dismantled the engine and made close copies of the head and block for their own cars. This engine was installed in an improved Type 35 chassis and the combination was dubbed Type 51.
In various forms the Type 51s scored successes in the early 1930s until the much larger engined Alfa Romeos and Maseratis took over. The Type 51 was available in both 2-litre and 2.3-litre form, the Type 51A had a smaller engine at 1.5-litres.

One of the Type 51's most famous race wins was the 1933 Monaco GP, where a Type 51 driven by Achille Varzi raced against the Alfa Romeo 8C Monza of Varzi's great rival, Tazio Nuvolari. Over the 100 lap race, the lead changed 21 times! How awesome would it be to recreate that with these two cars on Cote d'Azur?

Great post

With a little digital engineering, it wouldn't be that hard to recreate that race at all. I'd love it if we got the original Monaco layout & considering we've already got over 90% of the layout....
Then all we'd need is the Alfa & Bugatti.
Hope someone from PD reads this :D

OP has been updated with background information, technical specifications and links to other articles including galleries.

Enjoy :D

We can only hope & I wish I shared your optimism but I think this was a huge publicity stunt for the forthcoming GT Vision Bugatti of which I don't have the slightest little bit of interest in.
The world is full of magnificent cars that have graced this earth over the last 130 years and yet PD appear to be focused on giving us fantasy dreams labelled GT vision. I fear they've lost their way. GT7 will tell us the truth.

The old Bugattis are some of the most beautiful vehicles ever built by humans.
Every single one of them would hype me up.

There will be an original Type 35 competing in a hillclimb about an hour from my home tomorrow. Wouldn't you know it, I'm otherwise engaged & will miss out :banghead:
