Building a pc

Okay basically the delo is that me and danny (danacharism) (or however you spell his username!! lol) are planning on building our own pc, and we have no clue what to get etc LOL.

Basically what we know upto press is what the case is going to look like, but I'm planning on spending a lot of money on making this system and I mean I have no limit as I'm making this a project to take time with etc.

We need some advice please on this, we want the best of best things and the biggest hard-drive capicity available (I think danny has in mind of 5tb of memory LOL)

how much are you willing to spend?
if you are building a really highend pc, intel cpus and AMD(formerly ATi) videocards are the way to go. the AMD 4850, which hits the market in about 10 days and for only $195 will match the performance of the highend graphics cards out now. and the 4870 will be even faster than that, but for more money.
 
How much do you want to spend? 500 bucks? 5,000?

What are you going to be using it for?
 
I hope you're kidding on the storage. 5TB= ~1000 USD.
 
Nvidia's 9800GTX is $270 now. and they release their latest card tomorrow for about $400.

I would've specced 2x30" screens but the good ones were out of stock. Cheaped out on the motherboard and processor as the differences between high-mid tier and top tier aren't that great.

You forgot the second (and third ?) GTX 280(s) !....

And why go with a Slim Line BD drive and not just a "regular" 5 1/4" ?...

I don't see the point in SLI, it's better to be practical than wasteful. Though 3 GTX 280s would be useful for driving 2x 30" screens.

And slim is win. :D

You could consider a Mac Pro too:

What the heck is a GTX 280? :confused:


I wouldn't go for the Mac Pro, even if you are kidding. As a workstation it would be great but it costs too much for the base system before you get any sort of gaming worthy video card. And you have to buy the really expensive full buffered memory.
 
The GTX 280 is nVidia's answer to ATi's 4870. :)
